My first urbex at Nara Dreamland (RIP) so long ago
< on 3/29/2021 4:22 PM >

New to the site so thought I'd share my first ever urbex pictures I took over 5 years ago. They were captured at Nara Dreamland in Nara, Japan... an amusement park that closed down in 2006 and was sadly demolished in 2016.

Back then, I was just a curious traveler and had no idea that I'd catch the bug and continue urban exploration as a hobby. Nara Dreamland was my gateway drug. Going in both scared the hell out of me (there were rumors that robots patrolled the park) and made me feel incredibly alive (would the rollercoaster collapse on me?). It irks me that I didn't discover urbex until the end of my many years living there.

I think I sat in that rollercoaster loop for an hour, feeling like a queen.

What type of site drew you into the urbex world?

Super cool site! It's a shame it's gone. My first spots were much less interesting.

Love the first photo! Great site. I got started Urbexing by accident many years ago and didn't even know it was a thing until much later. I was taking photos of old buildings that were crumbling and abandoned around the city of Atlanta in the years just after the Olympics (Summer games were in Atlanta in 1996).

That’s awesome. Japan still uses most of its Olympic sites but has plenty of abandoned amusement parks it seems!

What an awesome first site! I unfortunately never got to go to Dreamland but I've seen so many pictures it almost feels like I've been there. I mostly got into urbex through abandoned factories and industrial sites, since I grew up with Thomas Edison's cement factory right down the road from my house. That and a couple of random abandoned barns and houses.

Thank You So Much for the extra photos! This place is so cool. I wish i would of had the opportunity to visit there like you did.... It reminds me alot of Six Flags in NOLA. which i DID have the pleasure of seeing 2 times. Love how overgrow parts of Nara are when you was there. Great views of the coasters too!

Yup! I sat on a horse, spun around on the tea cups, and many other immobile things. Good times

whoa! I couldn't imaging stumbling across a place like this...
What an awesome place and such a shame it's gone now. I wish I'd been into urban exploration 5 years ago, when half of the best places were still standing...
Thanks for posting! Awesome pictures!
