Posted by Dee Ashley That's awesome! I still want to take you up on your offer to come out there and learn how to properly explore a mine. I'm proud to say that I finally got to rappel for the first time last February, so I'm slightly more experienced than before, lol. I had hoped to do a road trip adventure a few months back, but then Covid-19 happened. I'm hopeful that 2021 will be a happier time (and more travel friendly)! EDIT: Any idea why that ladder looked brand new at the top? Did you guys put that there? It was a stark contrast to the rest of the mine! |
Posted by Abby Normal Yes I can explain! There were a number of sections of ladder that were completely rotten, had many broken rungs, or were dangling by a single nail. There are a couple of videos on the "Ask Jeff Williams" YouTube channel of us replacing multiple 10' sections of ladder. So far we have replaced just over 30 feet of ladders and we have another 20' that should be replaced. The top sections of ladder you are referring to is one of the sections that we had to replace. I'll tell you that when you are standing on a flimsy ladder with a saws-all in hand getting ready to cut off the ladder you are standing on, your brain screams not to do it. Even with ropes, looking down over 100' into the blackness is just spooky. I hope that explains it! Abby |
Posted by Aran That's such a cool project! I take it this is one of your regular haunts then if you're putting that much effort into maintaining access? |
Posted by Dee Ashley That's amazing. I did notice later in the video when you were about to anchor, the ladder looked more fitting to its environment (i.e., older). When do you guys plan to go back? I'm interested in seeing how the sequel goes - and what's on the other levels.... |
Posted by RescueMe1060 more videos of when you do go back please! |
