Posted by Boffo Maybe 3-4 warnings. And one $65 ticket. And there is no 'mark on your record' for trespassing? |
Posted by mookster I've also been caught by police in a mill in France, they came in eight or nine strong all with their guns and everything but as soon as they saw we had cameras and stuff it was absolutely fine, they were really nice. We got escorted out and found our car - the only UK registered car on the street - boxed in by their cars. |
Posted by Aran Glad to hear that the classic British/French rivalry is still going strong. Was the registration what tipped them off? |
Posted by Radio2600 Pretty much everyone that gets busted in NYC gets the nickel ride and ACOD. The nickel ride is arrested, taken to a detention center, held overnight for a hearing on the next day court is in session. After that you get to make one or two more appearances in court with the last appearance the judge grants an ACOD. ACOD is adjourned in contemplation of dismissal. Simply put, if you don't get busted again for the same thing in the next 6 months, the case is automatically dismissed. You beat the rap, but not the ride. RECENT CHANGE Under the new bail reform, you no longer get held in detention until your preliminary hearing, but you still have to show up for it. |
Posted by plight So... Get busted doing something cool then chill for 6 months? Doesn't seem too bad. If you get the nickel ride a second or third time can they bring up your previous incidents? |
Posted by Dee Ashley I’m not sure about NY specifically, but I do know that dismissals still show up in the database (NCIC, and here in Texas, TCIC). As soon as the charges (and usually, an arrest) were officially made, you were added to the system and will remain in the system. A dismissal only means you weren’t convicted of a crime, it doesn’t assume guilt or innocence and law enforcement can still see this information in your background report unless you manage to somehow get the charges expunged. In Texas, a true expungement is almost impossible, even if charges are dropped or dismissed. |
