Posted by jeepdave I cannot stress this enough, never bring tools on a explore. Even a Leatherman can up the charges significantly if caught. |
Posted by Adv.Pack Everyone so far has really good advice but I'd just like to add... Dont let this bother you so much. Just do your thing and have fun. Stay ahead of the game and always move on to the next adventure. Dont get attached to locations because shit will always change for the worse. Took me a long time to fully understand this. |
Posted by UrbanDK This is basically the reason I've given up on trying to get friends into this kind of thing. I'll have people promise to keep locations secret, and then I'll find that they took their friends to those same places to tag them. I've also had people tell me that the whole point of this was to steal. I've only got one or two people I trust now, basically. |
Posted by ClementRSedona Sadly, the motivation for the new explorers seems to just not be the same anymore. |
Posted by NOUVELLES_WEPT What's your opinion on bringing a leatherman? If you're going alone would you keep one in your pack? |
Posted by AdventureDan apparently you aren't well versed in your local trespass laws blackhawk. Many states lack a "simple" trespass law, and the charge defaults to criminal trespass regardless of what you are doing there. |
Posted by blackhawk Yes, yes I am... If the property isn't secured ie fence with a locked gate and especially if not posted and you haven't been verbally warned, what I said is quit true in most states. Intent has a lot to do with how a LEO will deal with you as well as your attitude. A cop can arrest if they want to even if the charge doesn't stick... I've been "caught" multiple times over the decades, even admitted to trespassing at Pennhurst to State Troopers, on active RR tracks by local and rail police multiple times/states (including Texas) with no charges or arrest. Most times the LEOs didn't even verbally trespass me out allowing me to return in the future It's not so clear cut. Know where the line is and how far you crossed it, if any. Cops are far less likely to overlook felony crimes than minor ones. Don't be an arrogant ass with your trespassing intents or when dealing with LEOs. WYSIWYG has served me well in dealing with LEOs. https://legalbeagl...-pennsylvania.html |
Posted by Explorer Zero I understand the presence of livestock also rates an "understood" no trespass. At lest it used to, I have not looked at the PC Section 30.05 lately but it has a lot of stipulations. And its pretty broad in it scope. |
Posted by blackhawk Exactly. More so after 911 in most states. With livestock and crops no fence or warning signs are needed in many states ie active agriculture areas rate state felony trespassing charges. Be careful about crossing active farmlands to access other areas even with no fence. & Ignorance of the law is no defense... |
Posted by Rinzler That’s not what the federal statute says!! I’ve crossed many a farm land to get into hospitals too. Luckily I was never caught. |

Posted by Explorer Zero Most farmers, at least in Texas are good old boys. If they don't shoot you on sight they probably wont press charges. Lot depends on how they feel and how you look. I dare you to quote federal statutes in a Texas state district or county criminal court LOLOL! |
Posted by kidchaos23 I've been exploring for a while, but this is probably a rookie question so I'm sticking it in the rookie forum. There are some baby explorers in my region who are super obnoxious. One tried to reach out to me as a woman who also explores, and I was really excited about it! Then she blasted one of my favorite locations on every site she could (I didn't take her there or anything, she did this on her own). I told her it wasn't a good idea because it gets these places shut down, trashed, burned down, etc. But she didn't change it. She still does this. I deleted her because it just seemed like a lot to deal with. She does a lot of things FOR THE LIKES AND VIEWS CLICK SUBSCRIBE. Also, while I really don't have anything against graffiti (which is a position not everyone shares, I know), a bunch of them are leaving sloppy tags of their Instagram accounts. Like, idk, maybe this is a personal pet peeve, but if you're gonna tag something, at least make it good? Make it art? Try, even a little? Is there...anything I can do about this? Without being a bastard? I try to be friendly and welcoming, and I know people are free and are going to do whatever. But I also really want to protect these places. Is there even a point to worrying about this? |
