Abandoned Prairie Sentinel / On the Road in Saskatchewan
< on 2/19/2020 4:17 AM >

I've been longing for an opportunity to explore one of these for years and finally made it happen while working on the road in Saskatchewan earlier this month. This is why I love SK, all you have to do is point your vehicle toward the horizon and go.

Part I

From what I can tell, skimming through mail scraps, newspapers, and previous articles online, this community was abandoned only a few years ago... 2016 likely. As recently as 2015 a cardlock gas station was in business right next door, not a shred of it remains today, they didn't leave a trace behind.

Starting to think that a couple of years from now I'll be able to put together an album entirely dedicated to these old Servel gas refrigerators, this must be the 3rd or 4th that I've stumbled upon exploring the Canadian west.

Rarely is a anything posted here like what you dredge up in the back country.
Wow.

PART IV

Built in 1970 for the Canada Winter Games, Mount Blackstrap is one of few man-made mountains in the world. At a towering height of ~150 ft above its surroundings it can be seen from kilometers away. After the winter games it was opened for public use under private ownership. In 2008 Mt. Blackstrap was closed permanently due to declining usage.

EPOCH6, you dredge up the coolest sites and shoot them proper.
Always enjoy your exploits into the back country and your captures.
Thank you for sharing these

I appreciate it man. I work in telecommunications and spend so much time in massive mechanical interstitials, machine rooms, service tunnels, basements and the like that it's hugely therapeutic to go roaming around off the grid. I definitely prefer the pace of rural exploration to high risk infiltration in the city. I do love browsing through some of the high stakes photography that is posted here but I doubt there is any of that in the near future for me.

I'll be exploring Arizona for the first time next month as long as the border stays open amid coronavirus concerns. I'm booked to fly out of Washington and apparently they're not doing so hot right now, fingers crossed.

Cool stuff EPOCH6.
If you've never been to Arizona you're in for a treat. The cactus are amazing.
April is a good time; not too hot.
Still too cool for most of the reptiles though.
Maybe some will be out. The Gila monster is one of the coolest and I think the only venomous lizard in the US. May see some rattlers too.

Yeah the coronavirus is fixing to pop.
If so you know how the natives get
The idiots here now are buying up all the toilet paper.
WTF is that?
That's their biggest concern?

I love these pictures! The light in each of them makes everything look more vibrant and really makes the pictures pop! Nice work!
