Ghost Town Church in the Texas Panhandle

Whats up peeps

I'm working on a longer post exploring a lot of the old ghost towns around the Texas Panhandle. I've got a few more on my list still to go, so in the mean time here is a set of photos from a very well preserved church I stumbled across.

The town the church is actually one of the oldest in the area; the cemetery has graves dating back as far as the mid 19th century. There really isn't much else here, just the church, a still-operational grain mill, cemetery, and maybe 4 houses (2 abandoned, 2 lived-in).

Huh. Actually disappointing this is cinder block construction. Worst building type in the world.

Cool find! This church seems pretty large for the rural panhandle area - and minimal vandalism from what I can tell which is always a big bonus. I've found lots of old churches out there, but 90% of them are the tiny, steepled one-room ones that are scattered about pretty much everywhere in the U.S.
I was just out in that area and would like to go back before the stifling heat takes over again. I did find a church in the OK panhandle however that really caught my attention. This thread is just my reminder that I need to go back soon.

Yeah it was definitely larger than I would've expected for how little there was around it. Did not seem like there was any vandalism whatsoever actually... zero graffiti, and a lot of church paperwork, flyers, mail, etc were all still there on some of the shelves; it all looked completely untouched save for all of the bird damage.

Awesome find! I've always wanted to find a true ghost town, but sadly the Great Lakes region is too well developed for those. Maybe someday.
