Posted by 2Xplorations Well thanks for that heads-up I never knew dogs could fight for no reason |
Posted by ThePilotGuy It caught me very off guard how aggressive the loose dog was considering how gentle she was when she first came up to me. There certainly wasn't anything to provoke the fight that I saw. |
Posted by 2Xplorations I was trying to be funny, anyone that knows dogs knows they do not always have an obvious reason to provoke a fight. Ive been around dogs all my life, its surprising how they react to another dog and not always in a consistent manner. |
Posted by ThePilotGuy I've had a dog and been around dogs since I was little as well. I've never seen a dog be so friendly with people and so aggressive to another dog at the same time. |
Posted by blackhawk Happy dog was a rescued fighting pit bull. I rough housed with him many a time. He was a very strong dog. He would growl, bark and play bite you but never break your skin. Other dogs were not so fortunate... |
Posted by Dee Ashley Someone had neglected to close a gate and the dog ran out of its yard and attacked her for whatever reason. |
Posted by Dee Ashley I had a friend that was mauled by a dog as a toddler and almost died. When we met in second grade, she had scars on her face, but they were gone when we reunited as adults. Someone had neglected to close a gate and the dog ran out of its yard and attacked her for whatever reason. She couldn't have been older than three years old and had to undergo several surgeries as a result of the attack. |
Posted by Aran The neighbor's dog did the exact same thing to me when I was 14. I was just walking down the street when it bolted down the driveway and sank its teeth into my upper arm. I'm convinced it was going for my throat but didn't leap high enough. The owner apologized and since he showed us the up to date rabies vaccine tag we never reported it, but to this day I don't know why it attacked me. My best guess is that I smelled like our relatively new dog (we had her for a few months at that point) and it got territorial. |

Posted by 2Xplorations I hate this as much as I love dogs. When the story broke about the pit bull mauling/death it was right on the cusp of a major surge in pit bull ownership. Typical redneck families riding around in their trucks with their pitie wearing a bandana instead of a collar, I actually saw one jump out of a pick up in traffic to attack another mongrel pitie mix on the sidewalk, caused a major traffic jam and confrontation with the other redneck dog owner. We had several that chronically ran loose in our east Dallas neighborhood. My wife was terrified to be out in the yard with our 2 year old daughter. I had a ringside seat when a big old animal control officer chased one down with a noose stick and corned it. What a freaking fight. It was like having a wild horse on the end of a 6ft plastic stick. Holy crap. Funny thing is when the state cracked down on the dog fighting community pit bulls started being raised like normal pets and I believe they have lost some of their aggressive traits. But don't test it. Any dog can be aggressive. I have a neighbor that had a big old mountain cur at least 100lbs, he was supposed to be mean but he liked me. One day a beautiful big blue pitie just showed up in their yard and moved in with the old cur, Everyone freaked out and wanted to kill it the pitie was semi aggressive. I began baby talking to it and calling it, gave it some treats and petted him what do you know the pit bull from Hell got all submissive and friendly. My wife and the neighbors were horrified at first but the little guy started following me around wanting some more treats. Happy ending, some other neighbor came over and adopted him before the first neighbors who wanted to kill it could get their rifles out. Last I heard he was a good pet |
Posted by 2Xplorations Teenage urbexer killed by pit bulls while trespassing. (or maybe he was just there to steal a lawn mower) https://www.usatod...g-yard/1986074001/ trespassing on residential sites can getcha kil't |
Posted by Dee Ashley My cat was eaten by a coyote when I was a kid. I was the lucky one to find what was left of him in our front yard when I was about ten years old. It took a few years to get over the resentment toward coyotes as a whole, but I did. Now I just find it disheartening and sad that they have been driven from their homes over and over again so that we can have our HOA’s and golf courses. |
