BDP 2019 Tribute
< on 3/4/2019 12:50 PM >

Sadly we had to add a few Cave Clan members to the Big Drain Posse over the last couple of years, but time will do that.

A few months a go I found Rick's name & address written in an old street directory so I Googled his name & sadly found out he had died of cancer ten years before. We met Rick in a Melbourne pub 20 years prior to his death (he would have been 23). We had some drain photo albums with us (we'd just met a reporter) & Rick took one look at the photos & the next day we were doing drains with him. We then coincidentally bumped into him in Kings Cross, Sydney a few weeks later. After another night of drinking we went and did Sydney drains with him the next day (we named Sydney drain Rick's after him (originally called Canadian Rick's)). He then went on to Brisbane where he met a girl from Melbourne & told her, "I met these dudes in Melbourne that took me in drains". She asked what they looked like & then said, "oh, you mean Dougo, Gilligan & Wes". It turns out she was the sister of a Clan member in Melbourne

Rick was a great guy & those few days with him really had an impact on me. He would have slipped into the Melbourne Cave Clan nicely and he seemed to love doing stuff with us. He was a cross between David Lee Roth & the actor Michael Masden. Discovering the sad news of his death was made a bit easier by getting in touch with his son & passing on this 20-year-old footage of his dad. He replied that he was crying as he watched the video as they had no recording of his father's voice & that they sounded just alike.

RIP Ricky K

Thanks mate.

I actually sent his son 15 minutes of footage.
I had to explain that his dad was young (23) which is why he was talking about getting lucky with beautiful Australian women and why he was smoking a joint in the video

A bit of a typo where I say "this 20...". Should have been 'some'.

Sounds like a bloody good plan to me

Finding out someone you liked and thought was kicking has instead been dead 10 years is a strange feeling.
Been there... not fun.

I'm in one of those moods; listening to the Cramps, Garbageman.
Fun to be all torqued up.
