Colorado's Silent Hill, Part 2
< on 8/16/2018 7:36 PM >

This post follows a fellow warrior and I as we return to Colorado's "Silent Hill". Setting out early on a cool cloudy day we fixed our sights on the town perched high in the distance. While exploring the old mill a monstrous thunderstorm bore down upon us creating the perfect scene as the heavy winds blew loose papers all around, making it even spookier then normal. (Talk about kicking things off with a bang!) After waiting out the downpour we proceeded onwards with blue sky's and smooth sailing for the rest of our exploration. I hope you enjoy this photo set!

I apologize for the poor lighting in some of the shots, my camera did not want to focus properly after getting wet.

1. Heavy Rain

2. Don't Panic

3. Curtain Call

4. Road Work Ahead

5. The Slippery Slope (I fell through here!)

6. Do you like balloons, Georgie?

7. Amityville

8. Open for Business

9. Promotion

10. Good Read

11. Better Read

12. Strrrike!

13. The Grand Stands

14. Do you want to play a game?

15. Heavy Metal

16. What's behind door #1?

17. Take your pick

18. "Newly Renovated"

19. Ultimate Power!

20. Nah, it's just my summer home

21. (Bonus Pic) But can you do this?

These are great looks inside the buildings. When I went I was too wiped out from the hike up Battle Mountain to go in too many. I especially dig the little Marry Poppins photo.

Great work!

It is one heck of a hike when it's hot out. There are just to many things to see in one visit, but hopefully you'll make it back again someday. There's a ton of little posters like that one if you look inside the cabinets and closets.

Thanks for commenting!

Hey, looks like a fun trip! I think I might grab my buddies and make a day trip out of it pretty soon. My buddies haven't explored much and this place looks perfectly low key. I love the green in your first picture and those X-rays you found. Keep it up!

This spot is great, there's plenty to see so plan on making a 2-day trip if you want to see it all. And thank you, these pics were taken in mid summer, very hot but well worth it!

Super awesome post man! If this is the abandoned town I think it is, was there much security? I have wanted to explore for a while, but was unsure the best route to take. Also heard it might be worth camping overnight but not sure how much they patrol.

Send me a message and I'll give you more details about the area when I can.

You're fine. Just try to frame and square off the shots the best you can.

Okay will do, I just got a new camera and am going to be taking a trip over seas soon so I'll work on practicing my photography while I'm over there. Thanks for the input, always much appreciated!

If you ever return make it like a scavenger hunt, there are a lot and the easiest ones to find are in cabinets/closets. But there are more hidden a bit deeper that you'll just have to search for!

Practice before you go; if you get some prime sites, be ready.
Pay close attention to the AF/metering modes and how they work. Test the AF for accuracy.
You only get one shot at composing a shot...

Great advice, I won't be doing much UE while I'm over there, but I've been testing it out and should have things figured out before I go just in case. One of these days I'm going to have to learn what all these modes/settings mean if I'm ever going to get any good at taking photos of abandoned places.
Humbling advice from somebody who's not an expert... Thanks!

X-rays! God dammit, I'm jealous. I've been in a place with a shelf labeled "x-rays", but there were none.
Ugh, and I hardly explored while I lived in Colorado. Fuhck.

Well, to tell you the truth, I've had trouble finding decent places to explore here in CO. I happened to find out about this place through work, so I got very lucky. Unless you know of some other secret places that are worth the risk I don't think you missed to much while you were here!

Great shots! I wish we had something of this scale in the southeast.

The room with the skateboard ramps...I saw a photo of that in much better shape many years ago, if it's the same location I am thinking of.
