New to Photography
< on 11/4/2016 7:17 PM >

I'm pretty new to taking pictures on more than just my phone. It's also my first time editing photos, so I'm not to sure what I'm trying to do. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated along with any explanation as to why it is that way.

1. Storage Room in a Ghost Town

2. Sunrise in an Amusement Park

3. Sunset

4. Broken Windows

5. Carousel

off the bat the composition seems to me like it could be better, there is no clear subject at all or not ones that are interesting

1. I wish the top of the capsule/container thing had been at least included in the shot. In my opinion it is fine the bottom half is cut off but it would look better if you could see one end of it.

2. The background light overpowers the picture, it can sometimes be fixed in editing but in this case it might be due to the phone.

3. I just don't really find anything special in this picture to look at. It is a creative concept but with boring content.

4. Kind of a confusing shot. Not really sure what I was looking at without the title. Looks like a broken picture frame but it is not. Maybe just compose it more so it is centered? Not sure.

5. Nice shot. Wish it wasn't so washed out at the top but that can definitely be fixed in post-production.

Good pictures overall! Very good for just starting out and taking them with a phone. Hope I wasn't harsh at all, and of course, it is all just my opinion. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty much sums it up.
Composition and the subject make or break the shot.
None are keepers in my opinion.
Always square up your shots where applicable.

Read over this thread and the links I posted on it:

With a lot of effort, in time you will view photography a lot differently then you do now.
We all went through similar learning stages.
It can be awkward... if it truly interests you the effort will seem trivial. Nonetheless it takes time and practice.
