Just wondering what people think
< on 3/1/2016 3:52 PM >

So here I am finally in the photography forums . . .
Thirty years ago I frequented places like Taunton State Hospital, Northampton, Foxboro, Danvers etc. and never even carried a camera. Now I wish I had because they're all gone, but I started taking pics five or six years ago because it was the only way people would believe that I went the places I went. I had an old Olympus 1.2mp point and shoot that took horrible pictures but was tough as nails. Now I've got a couple thousand dollars of gear in my bag and probably still take pretty horrible pictures. Not sure what made me want to try this but I'm wondering if other people even consider this photography or if it's just plain silliness?

Plain silliness, along with the countless hundreds of other members in here. You are not the only one, HO. I mean that with no disrespect to everyone in here.

Photography is not for everyone. Me, I am into ABANDONMENTS. I was an urban explorer before I became a "photographer". Before I discovered UER I never cared for photographing abandoned locations (I still don't). Heck, I only do it because we all jerk off to these abandoned spots (including me).

Despite having said all that, I do like to edit my photos with color splash also. That is something rarely seen on here.

Personally I think it's silliness, but consider your goal. If you're doing it because it's how you want the image to look, then full steam ahead. If the goal is knob slobbing on UER, beware indeed.

Location looks badass, by the way. It'd be a lot worse if you were doing this with a much douchier image, as is usually the case when that technique is seen here.

I dont care for or have any use for selective coloring but to each his own.
If you like it...great, have at it.

You can't be serious . . . . .

The last few months I've been trying to take better pictures and I'm always looking for ways to make the pictures I took look even better. I saw this done somewhere - I don't think it was here, but I just think it looks pretty cool. Until recently I was never one to edit my pictures. My goal in taking them was simply to make an accurate representation of what I saw that day. Download them from the camera, crop or straighten a little if necessary, and they're done. This is something new for me and I really like the look of it. I'm going to try a couple more.

Woah - I didn't expect to click here and not see one single positive, or at least constructive, comment to the OP..

In relation to your last comment, I'm right there with you. I've been trying to better my pictures recently. Despite what anyone tells you, if that's what makes you happy, at the end of the day that's all that matters.

As for your shots I personally really like the spot coloring you used and it's hard to pick a favorite, they're both great shots/edits. But since you're here for critiquing the only thing I would change is the first shot's shadows, lightening them a little bit. The dark spots on the top left and the rolling bookshelf seem to kind of wash out detail in the real dark areas.

Keep at it
