Do you ever use the perspective/distort tools on your photos?

So I left one of my images open on my computer at the studio I work at and my boss went and kind of straightened it up for me.. I'll be honest, I've never really thought about doing that with most of my images from exploring.. Which one do you like best?

I always use lens profile correction in Lightroom. It corrects (attempts to) for lens distortion (pincushion, barrel distortion, etc.). I always adjust rotation to ensure a level horizon. About 99.9% of the time I also correct vertical perspective, most noticeable when using very wide angle lenses and shooting in an up or down direction.

When I first started shooting I didn't really utilize any of that stuff, but now I always straighten my shots and since I use a wide angle lens I use the lens correction tool in LR and if I don't feel it did it's job well enough I'll manually correct it. It's kind of surprising how those small tweaks can really make or break a composition.

holy schnoogans I didn't even know you could do this! I've used a similar tool in some app on my iPad, but had no clue it was available in Lr

Yeah I try to use straighten and correct lens distortion on pretty much every photo. I always try to get it straight as possible first though to get the most resolution.

I always straighten and always correct lens distortion (I use Photoshop, though). I get super frustrated at times when there are a ton of lines and am not sure which to base my straight line off of if I don't get it right in camera. Always get it right in camera first, saves processing time.

I've used a three-way bubble level for years. Especially useful in dark places where you can barely see what you're trying to line up on. And I've found that the more you use one, the less you need to use one (if that makes any sense).

So, that thing is super neat. I like the tripods that have the levels built in. I need to replace my tripod. It's brand new, but is stupid heavy. I could beat a bum to death if need be. It's horrible. lol

Second image is much better, the windows are straight.

Filter -> Lens Correction -> Custom

You may then fine tune the geometric distortion (ie. the 'bulging' of what should be straight lines) and Transform -> Angle to straighten.

I've been getting down on a tool called Adaptive Wide Angle, especially when stitching together panoramas. It can be kind of a time consuming process, but the results can be pretty dramatic.
