Abandoned school in Columbia County NY
< on 10/27/2015 4:58 AM >

I know I'm new here and I'm trying not to break any forum rules, but I had a question or two about s location. The school I attended when I was living upstate has apparently been abandoned since I left 15 years ago. I drove up there from NYC with a few friends last year to check it out but we got all the way up there only to find a State Police trooper parked right out front. Basically I'm wondering if anyone knows the current state of the place and if it's any less guarded these days. Hopefully someone knows the place I'm talking about, for all I know it's in the database but not being a full member I can't see it.

Bringing this old thread back from the dead instead of starting a new one. When I originally posted this I received a private message from member here stating that the school appeared to have been purchased and was being renovated so I forgot about it, but over the last few weeks I've seen multiple posts on a few different FB groups that I'm 99% sure are the same school but of course the name of the location wasn't posted and I'm not going to ask.

If anyone in or near Columbia county knows the fate of the school whose former initials were RJ please let me know. I'd love to get the chance to explore it but I'd rather not make another 3 hour drive for nothing.

I visited the school a few years ago. I know in more recent times there is a bunch of large graffiti tags inside. For a while it was a popular "flavor of the month" spot. I haven't been by in a few years though. Wish I could be more help.

Thanks, glad to know I was right but sucks to know I could have seen it before it was so tagged up.

I was there this past weekend. It was an easy explore, no one bothered us. Although there was a red van parked out back when we entered, which soon left. And a pickup truck drove through. Just don't be seen entering and you should be ok.
The vandalism and graffitti is there, sadly. It looks like the building has been having some sort of work done to it. The drop ceiling in many rooms has been removed, some interior doors removed...really beautiful building.

I drove past this place early Spring time this year while en route to a waterfall and it took me by surprise. Looks like the owner's have the lawn kept up on a regular basis. From what I read in an article the owner's want to develop a luxury hotel on the grounds.

Yeah I saw that same article, from back in May. Unless a lot has changed since I left I can't really see a big luxury hotel pulling in a lot of guests in that area. Either way, thanks again for the info. I'll definitely be planning another trip up there soon.

They must have gotten lazy because it was pretty overgrown.
