Entry: AT&T Long Line Towers originally posted by Waiver |
I decided to make this simply to share what I've learned so far about these towers. Starting in the 1950's, AT&T launched a new set radio towers to be built. Of these towers were built approximately 30 miles apart, all over the US and lower part of Canada. These towers served a obvious purpose, but after awhile they became outdated by a much better system, fiber optics. These towers became almost useless, and AT&T sold them off to private buyers. Most of these towers stay standing. Heres a map of all the towers, note some could be demolished but likely not. According to one forums page these radio towers sold for around 25k each. Here are the feed horns, which are the antennas. Lots of these were removed and scraped before being resold by AT&T. I know that some of them can be up to 30 feet tall! |
