This article is under construction. More info and pictures to come.

A "chuckable" tripod, a term coined at the first New England OPEX, is a tripod which can be thrown from a high spot, over a fence, or over some other long distance while escaping from a location. One may refer to their tripod as a "chuckable tripod" in the senses describe below, or later apply the term to any tripod which was chucked and survived with no more damage than superficial scratches.

Chuckable tripods can be of two varieties. The first, and most common, is the cheap, old, already-scratched tripod which one does not care about getting scratched or broken more. However, ideally this type of chuckable tripod should be sturdy enough to withstand being thrown over 8-foot-tall fences and still functioning afterwards.

The other type of chuckable tripod is the heavier, professional tripod which would survive such a throw without being broken or scratched. However, this type of tripod is quite difficult to run with, and also makes a rather dangerous missile when thrown over a tall fence over which others have already climbed. Therefore, it is recommended to stick with the first variety of chuckable tripod for missions with a high probability of chucking.

Chuckable cameras are less common, and in general not recommended for use.

(Addition by ILPUG- there is a third type of chuckable tripod, one that you make yourself. these can easily be made with plastic pipe, bits of wood, and bolts. )
