First Shoot with new DSLR
< on 3/13/2015 6:37 PM >

This was a few months back and was my first time using my DSLR for a serious shoot. I did post this in the NE Forum initially but was looking for a little more feedback on the photography. Thanks!

Very nice pictures. What is the general back story with this location? In picture 2 it looks like its someones active home. What are the hooded figures in the 4th one? I love the framing and focus of the 5th one. You did excellent for a first shoot with a new camera

I might be way wrong. But I think it's Eastern State Penitentiary

Everyone's assumptions in this thread are correct.

Penitentiary
Eastern State
Al Capone's cell.

The "dummies" are to illustrate how prisoners were moved around when the place first opened. This was done to end communications between prisoners and to confuse them as to where they were. At that time there was only solitary confinement.

I'm going to post my first outside shoot with the DSLR today. I held out and kept using 35mm for a long time but I'm liking the switch to digital more than I thought I would.

The photo of the hooded dummies immediately made me think of the photos from Abu Ghraib. That's some spooky shit! Can you imagine walking down the hallway in darkness, then seeing the silhouettes of those dummies standing there? I'd freak right out.
