This is a whole bunch of fucked up all over. I don't even know where to start. I find it excessive. But I find I don't exactly feel bad for the little shit either.

25 years to life?
i was thinking a huge fine, no gaming for 20 years and shit-ton of community service would've been ample punishment. Holy shit.

This is rare that I can actually agree with Snubs. Usually if it is not pro progressive, they mark it as false. But in this case, the Review, is an Onion like publication, but does very solid report style writing to make their satire look real. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last time this will happen. People need to realize that the review is a spoof news service. NYT had to do a major Correction on a piece that they reported, because their "Investigative" reporter did not investigate the article and nor did the editor. The Review satire went vireo around the world in many news services, and was never real. LOL I loved it because it had so many progressives in arms on that story!!!

The National Review has caught me a couple times (including on this very story, in fact).

On a side not, if the kid did get 25 years for SWATing somebody I would be fine with it. It is a pretty serious thing to do to somebody.

Thanks for posting the snopes link for the rest of us, but if DevilC holds true to form, it's gonna take a helluva lot more than that to convince him the story isn't true.

I would agree. Either that, or ten years, and no access to a computer for twenty-five years.

Meh... i've got a better idea. Maybe we should all stop overreacting to everything around us.

kids do stupid shit. ten years ago, it would've been prank phone calls. Now, with the access to shit we have, the stakes are upped. But of course, WE LIVE IN AN AGE WHERE THE TERRORISTS ARE AMONG US EVERYWHERE AND WE MUST BE VIGILANT! (cue serious movie trailer music)

Yeah, kids do stupid shit. We all did. But I'm pretty sure we knew better at 12 to not call the police on someone and lie about what would be going on to make them get raided. Much less at 15. So if this were a true story then, like you said the stakes are upped, so are the punishments.

That is all.

Only when I pranked called people there was not a chance somebody would then throw a grenade into their babies crib or shoot them with a sub machine gun.

When you SWAT somebody you are putting their lives in mortal danger. You are also invading their privacy, insuring at least some of their property is destroyed, and probably ruining their lives if they happen to be a recreational marijuana user.

Pranks are like "Do you have Prince Albert in a can?" <"You had better let him out" hang up.
A prank is not swatting someone and the risk of someone getting hurt or killed. That is not a prank.

I think the real issue is why police departments are so overreacting that they're calling out the SWAT team based on a phone call.

For the same reason that if they sent single officer there and it turned out real. Damned if you do/don't.

So true. There is no right call, and it is just better to use the best call just in case. The only way to deal with this one is to blame the party making the false call, not the police.

Nah, cops use SWAT too much. It has to have something to do with being a bunch of para-military wannabees.
