Some pictures from the final stretch of Bowker I explored last week. Tunnels themselves were pretty average, but some of the underground art was pretty neat.

First stretch was maybe 2-300m, it picks up not far after the Hall of Wonders

After that I headed downstream a ways to find the next section. This was a bit longer, maybe 3-400m and dumped me out not far from the Oak Bay rec center.

That's it! following the stream further downstream brings you to Fireman's slide which I've already explored. This one was a nice simple explore, a good way to ease back into the summer draining season!

The Welcome Home graffiti is a nice touch. Wish we had a Boston thread like this.

Sounds like a good excuse to start one! I do enjoy our regional draining thread, even if I'm the main person posting to it right now, lol.

Nice pictures.

That first section always gets good art. Almost looks like you're walking into some ancient Mayan temple.

Don't mind if I do then.

Took advantage of the nice day last Saturday to get up to some underground shenanigans in the Fairfield area. I suspect this drain connects to the Cook St Chasm at some point, however, it was more cramped then expected and one of my buddies needed to pop out after exploring towards the outflow since his legs were giving out. Hoping to explore in the other direction in the future!

Our Access portal:

It was a cool brick drain (first brick drain I've explored!)

As mentioned, it was a little cramped!

About halfway from our access manhole to the outflow, we encountered two large diameter CSP pipes crossing the drain.

And finally, we made it to the outflow! I suspect the pool in the picture was fairly deep, and the ladder up to the manhole looked pretty sketchy so we opted to go back the way we came.

Nice! Good to see some brick here again.

If I'm guessing right, I think I've been upstream of where you were, when what I really wanted to see was the chamber near the outfall (last pics?)

The other night htp123, Rhino604 and I met up and explored a totally epic drain. This one was a long one and had not only a sick rock tunnel but also two sets of stairs. Here's a couple of pics as a teaser, but I know the other guys have some truly fantastic long exposure shots as well!

Great stuff you guys! Love those photos. Those block waterfalls are so cool.

I think I know where this is, but have a couple questions (if my guess is correct). Did you get to the outfall, or was the tide too high? What's the connection like from the long, boring RCP to the good brick egg section?

And what's with the crazy stripey texture on that concrete?
Might need to visit this if I ever get back down to Vic overnight.

Yeah sounds like you know the spot! Tide was low enough that we were able to slip into the outflow, right around there is where the sick rock tunnel is located.

What's the connection like from the long, boring RCP to the good brick egg section?

The RCP ends in a sort of small chamber. Directly in front is a 900-1050mm RCP, and to the right is the teardrop brick section.

Thanks!

Regarding the outfall, you could also be thinking of another one. I was actually expecting that junction to be just a size change, but if we're lucky it would be a 3 or even 4-way branch, with one going south. It turned out to be a 3-way junction with one going north, upstream, and that's where those staircases are. In other words, there's another long section with another outfall heading south, and apparently disconnected from this one. I suspect it was once one very long brick drain, which was then intercepted and diverted via the long boring concrete tunnel. Very keen to check the south end of that junction now.

No idea about those stripes.. Some of them look like they could be saw marks, but others almost look like purposeful patterns. I'm guessing they were long, thin wood strips laid down for concrete forms to get that smooth 90 degree turn, and I almost wonder if maybe it was old pieces of trim or something?

You've been looking at the same maps as me! I had the exact same thought when looking at the maps after the fact - was surprised there wasn't a second brick section.

It is not, The chasm is still on my list of things to explore.

Wow, looks similar but the wood reminds me of the darkie. Great stuff.
