I wish I had more photos to share, but it just gives me more excuses to keep going back there. I normally only shoot a handful at a time so you won't see me posting a ton of pics. Thanks for sharing all of yours though.

Pooyo is here from Minnesota and is planning a trip out there within the next few weeks. Agreed to show him some of the sites out there if I can get away.

So yesterday, Pooyo, his wife Stevie and I spent about 4 or 5 hours cruising around the fort on bicycles. We got busted by the private security guard while snooping around in the old schoolhouse at East Garrison, but he was cool and allowed us to finish our business there while he hung around outside. Pooyo got some very nice shots which I'm sure he will be posting when he gets back to the Twin Cities. I played the tour guide but managed to get a few average pics with my point and shoot.

Update:
The guard that busted us at East Garrison told me of the plans to renovate the buildings and turn the site into an artist community. I was also informed by the Arts Habitat Administrator that they are working on finding the funding to convert the old mess halls into day-use artist studio spaces. This phase of the project wasn't suppose to start until after the construction of the affordable housing there. The roads are laid, so it's only a matter of time before they start construction, and this site will likely be locked down, or at the least a high risk exploration. Right now, avoiding the lone security guard is pretty easy..lots of cover on the Watkins Gate side. We only got caught because we weren't expecting anyone to be there.

I've never seen this old equipment..neat. Thanks for the update on the site. Its nice to see it will be an artist collective as well as houses. I suppose the old church in the east garrison will remain a developers/community meeting center. Speaking of the East garrison, do you know if they've done anything with the old theatre that's there?

Couldn't really say what's going on with the theater, or if it's still standing even. Didn't want to push our luck after the schoolhouse bust so didn't get to splore the rest of the site that day. Planning on a trip back this summer though. The chapel is to be renovated also but is now boarded up. The guard told us they arrested a couple for boinking on the alter recently.

So I'm out from Boston in SF for another week (here house/dog-sitting). Was thinking about going down to Ord this week...and just saw this thread. Perfect timing. Meant to go down last year but I put it off. Looks like I better get my trip in now if they are renovating. Anyone want to make an east coast buddy and go with? PM me.

Gonna try and head out to East Garrison again this weekend to see if I can get to the theater. Does anyone have a precise location for it? If I can pinpoint the building before I go it will make avoiding the security guard a little easier. Thanks.

Its really easy to find on GE. Its kind of imposing so its hard to miss it.

Its east of the ugly concrete horse stables on top of the hill being used for storage.

Thanks buddy. I see which one it is now. Gonna have to be a little sneaky there now, seeing as thats close to where the rent-a-cop likes to park up and take a nap once in a while.
