It's so clean! Great shots!

Nice to see Ording is alive and well. Some amazing pictures in this thread, especially the night shots! Here's a bit of a retrospective from me as I never got round to posting these...

Gym is still there. Doors are currently chained shut. The time before last when i was there, they were wide open. Like most things there, its pretty trashed.

I've gone back to Ord every year (I'm from Texas but come to Monterey every Thanksgiving) since 2010. On my first 2010 visit, the gym was wide open, but it has been, to varying degrees, locked up since that time. My last visit in 2014 was the first time I saw noticeably more "aggressive" development within the area, which I find quite depressing. Fort Ord has become like an old friend to me and is arguably my first "real explore." Due to it's size, I have yet to go back and not find something new, which I love. The time has come again to head west and I can't wait, but I'm nervous about how much of my old friend is still left.

UPDATE: for anyone curious, as of 11/28/15, the pool is still there, BUT... The Roller hockey rink has been recently closed down and the pool is boarded up tight. The new development is flanking that area on both the North and the east sides, and it looks like they are prepping for additional construction. I did some light painting over there last night, but I'm afraid this may have been for the last time. Huge bummer, but at least the other sections further north seem to be intact, as well as the areas further south. I even got to hit some sections that I hadn't seen before a couple nights ago (vandalism free too! I think I got lucky with the entry, only because they are cleaning out the asbestos in many if not all of the sections I explored that night).

For anyone that's interested:
A reliable source told me this morning that this building is built above an underground bunker. Apparently there is an elevator behind the large steel door with the combination lock.

Any follow-up on this?

Not much left of Ord, took some shots of some of the apartments and temporary housing. Next time, I will visit what's left of the concrete housing for the enlisted men. Just one section left. The gym is gone, but the church next door looks like it has been abandoned.

Awesome. Are the old hammerhead barracks still there? How about the old WWII wood barracks?

Wooden were still there late last year and one small section of hammerheads. Maybe November?

I wonder if all of the of single family homes are renovated. I remember seeing some photos of an entire neighborhood of abandoned homes.

I believe some, but not all have been renovated on the Northern portion. There are also some remaining buildings in East Garrison. The pools heater building was demolished and the pool painted and secured. I will be posting pics from these sites in the coming weeks.

95% sure that whole neighborhood is still there and still empty with like 6 - 10 houses lived in on one block (it’s weird). The ones I walked through a number of years ago had parquet floors just slowly rotting away and surrounded by encroaching modern, expensive developments.
