this was a Ford body of some vintage.
How can I tell? The engine is a 2.3L OHC Lima, staple of Ford RWD until the early 90's. Also, the alternator gives it away as a Ford product. I want to say its a Fox body, but the front suspension doesn't look quite right even though the bumper bar and inner fender bracing does. Also, the master cylinder for the brake system fits the bill as a Ford. The wheels don't quite match what Ford was putting on the base Fox bodies, but the bolt pattern does.

I'm puzzled by that one as well... mostly the bumper throwing me off. It needs work, that's for sure.
T-Bird maybe? The turn signal holes in the bumper would be accurate. I just have no idea if they ever sold them with a N/A 2.3.

I think it is a fox body mustang or Capri. Looks like it could be a fairmont wheel. But keep in mind lots of vehicles shared that pattern. Saab for one. Def a 2.3. It's a damned mess. That's for sure.
Edit: the more I look at it the more I think it could be a Ford LTD. The lil ones.

Wow, that's an impressive observation, considering how smashed up the thing is.
And yep! Due to it's location, this car could not have been put there any later than the early 90's!

it's a Fairmont Futura/Zephyr Z7 coupe.
the bumper bar is the giveaway... Mustang and Capris did not have the indent on their bars that this one does. The B-pillar is definitely of a coupe and if you look at the panel below the A-pillar, you'll find that on a Fairmont/Zephyr variant. What makes this NOT an 80-82 thunderbird is the engine... the T-bird of that vintage was equipped with the 3.3L (200cid) I-6, 3.8L/232cid V6, the 302(1980) or 4.2L/255 V8 (1981-1982). The 2.3L never made its way into the Bird until 1983 with the Turbocoupe. This is definitely a pre-83 2.3L judging by the coolant line running to the heater core on the rocker cover. Also, you can just make out a little of the door frame in the picture... granted it's mangled, but it does retain something of its shape and that to me say Fairmont Futura/Zephyr Z7 coupe. These had the racier 'fastback' styling that the frumpier sedans.
One last thing is the upper strut mount where the top of the strut mounts to the body... that Fox-body all the way, but by the look of the cap/plate arrangement, it puts this car right around 1980-81. And the mystery of those wheels? They're off a mid-80's Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz. Same bolt pattern , 4x100mm, and Ford had a goofy quirk where the offset of a FWD wheel would fit a RWD car and vice versa.

I owned a 81 Fairmont. I don't see that bumper working. But the LTD II I think it was had a bumper that reminds me of that. I'm so damned curios. OP get us a vin.

i had Mustang and Merkur wheels on a Topaz. I also had Tempo wheels on my Merkur at one point (just to move it around on).
the Merkur XR4Ti was only available with the 2.3L Turbo in the US. As the Sierra, it was available with the 2.8/2.9L V6
The Scorpio was available only with the V6

I had (aftermarket) Merkur wheels on my '85 Rx-7 for a while.
Which I decided were wayyyy too greasy, went back to the stock alloys, and sold them to a kid who put them on his Tempo which also had a nice stick on hood scoop.

I had some XR-7 alloys kicking around until like 2 years ago actually. One of them saved my ass when I lost an Rx-7 wheel in the dark...
