random tips and bits of knowledge

I find a great thing about UE is how little skill, knowledge or even talent you need when starting out. We just go where we feel good, and do what seems sensible there. We learn what it is we need to know just by encountering problems or obstacles while exploring, and solving them. I think we're happiest right at the edge of what we can do at any given time, where the adrenaline and excitement is.

I know people rarely read these things, but you gotta get that post count up somehow! My Names Chris, Raised in Queens,NY. Always had a bit of a wanderlust, I guess you could say that my first "urban exploration" experience would be when I was around 13/14 years old.
My friends apartment complex has a massive underground tunneling system connecting the property that covers about 5 blocks. They were virtually unused, with the exception of some storage areas right by the entrances, but nothing deep into the system. Not sure what they were used for, but it definitely gave me the itch to find more places like that. I left the hobby behind once I started working due to a lack of time. Fast forward about 10 years. A couple months ago I was running some errands on my day off, and I passed by the old RKO Theater in Flushing, and I couldn't shake the curiosity. I had to get on my phone and look up the interior of the place. I suggest everyone take a look at that if you haven't, its absolutely stunning. The jobs currently a little over my head, but one day after I have a few other places under my belt, I'd love to get in there. I've realized that the bug never goes away. It might go dormant for a little while, but the curiosity remains and will always resurface.
Anyway, enough rambling.
I'm looking forward to becoming a part of this community and learning from and with all of you guys.
See you in there!

Thank you for the opportunity to join the group. I have been exploring for decades in the Mojave Desert and the Great Basin areas of California and Nevada. I like the far out, isolated and strange places. Old mining areas, ghost towns, industrial complexes and exploring around military areas like the old Nevada Test Site and Rachel, Nevada. I look forward to learning from the pros and trading information.

Hello all, I am a 25 year old female in Vancouver, BC (originally hailing from Nova Scotia). I got into infiltration/UE about 10 years ago with a high school friend of mine. It's been a few years since I've been active, but the passion is still within me and has sparked again lately !! Hi!
I'm a female in NYC; I'm not really new as I have been a member since 2010, but I'm pretty shy. I am originally from MI and I used to explore all over the state with my best friend. I've since moved to NY and I don't really know anyone here that likes to explore, so I have been out of the game for a few years. I'm looking forward to posting more and hopefully meeting some like minded adventurers in and around the NYC area.

Hello all, I am a 25 year old female in Vancouver, BC (originally hailing from Nova Scotia).

Hi there. I spent almost a year living in Vancouver. I wasn't into video-making at that time, but a friend took a bunch of self-portraits in vacant lots in the downtown east side. I seem to remember there were a bunch of land grabs going on in preparation for the Olympics coming. Interesting in Vancouver to see extremes of poverty and wealth in such close proximity. Enjoy your explores, and I'll look out for pics!

Hi Steven

check out this thread - there's a link about how to become a full member. I haven't yet become a full member - looks like you've just got to wait your turn.

I met a strange little man once, he introduced me to his cousin and she looked almost exactly like you. It was so weird... Almost like a dream.

Hey,

I'm 24 years old and new to the UE scene. I've always been fascinated with abandoned buildings and enjoy researching and discovering new locations. I find that it's half the fun.

I have done some light UE for a bit by myself and have some pictures as well as a small list of buildings that I have found. I hope to find people to go exploring with as well as new locations to check out.

So, if any of y'all are for Centeral/Eastern Ontario, hit me up!

Hey all, I'm moderately new to UE (started with a friend about 3-4 years ago), and I'm fully new to this site.

My exploring has been in Philadelphia, where I live, and in Virginia/Maryland. I'm definitely looking forward to learning tips and tricks and getting any and all advice I can.
I'd love to meet some people in the Philly/New Jersey area too, as I currently don't really have anyone to explore with.

It genuinely upsets me that no matter how hard I try or how diligently I work I will never ever become a cat.

Hey all! Im a 26yo Australian just moved to Vancouver a week ago. Ive been exploring rooftops, drains, abandons, etc for almost 10 yrs now, alongside many mates from the Cave Clan. Ive been mainly focused on exploring and painting street art/graff but love the research, history and hunt just as much as urban decoration : )
Very glad to have found this site as my first impressions of Vancouver are pretty disappointed by how all this new development is whipping out old structures to build more gawd awful glass cubes and condos!
Nonetheless, Im sure theres still fun to be had - hoping to link up with likeminded explorers, urban artists, bicycle nerds, railfans, what have you...
Hit me up if there's anything going on here.

Funny how those things put things into perspective.
It usually puts an end to the pissing contests which are replaced with time management ;)

Hey! I'm from the Greater Toronto Area in Ontario, and I'm just starting out. The closest thing I've done is spelunking, so I thought I'd do as much research as possible before getting out there. Knowledge is safety.

Hi guys and girls, I'm new to UER but not the exploring scene having been a regular explorer in my home country of England for just over five years now. I've explored all over the UK and made four (soon to be five!) trips across to continental Europe - France, Belgium etc. Heading over there again at the end of July for three days.

I thought I would join this forum because I am heading to the USA in September for a month and a half, and I feel it would be great to get to know some of you people and maybe meet up while I'm over there - I'm going to be based at my mate's house in Bethesda, MD but plan on being up around New York State, New Jersey and Pennsylvania while I'm there - got a list as long as both my arms of things to do and my plan is to cram as much in as possible, it's the trip of a lifetime for me so I'm going to make the most of it!

Hey so I figure I should say hi on here before anything else! UE has been a part of my life for many years now and I figured I should start talking to like minded people instead of the usual crazy stares I get ;)

Anywhoo I'm in this game for the photos and history. You can find me in the remnants of the coal industry, old state hospitals, and my new addiction of old racetracks.

So hello fellow inmates!
