Purchased a brand new car and was scheduled to pick it up from the dealership tonight. When the dealer was driving it from another dealership to ours... they hit a deer. Now I'm not sure if I will take this one or wait 8 weeks for another one. Damage estimate is close to $12,000.00 already. Stupid Deer!

GMC Acadia, just over $50,000.00

At least it wasn't after "You" left the lot. Don't let them fix it. Whole new. Car. Worth waiting. Cars are never the same after a major impact.
The question is not when are we gonna stop, It's who's gonna stop us? |

I agree, for that much cash I would wait it out.

If bags deployed, it will decrease the value significantly. And no matter what it will be on the Car Fax. If you ever plan to sell/trade it in, wait for a new one.

TOTALLY wait for a new car, and if you're out transpo make them give you a rental til the new one arrives.
|
|
Wait for the new car unless they knock 50% off the price. If you can walk away owning the wrecked car for $25k, then do it. Could sell it right away for at least $30k I bet.

Wait for a new car. You don't know the full extent of the damage and may not find out until it's too late. Glad no one was hurt and glad it wasn't you driving.
Gone for a while. Be back when I'm back. |

Poor deer.

Actually very true. There are way too many deer here, people feed them and they get too close to town. Thankfully it was killed immediately by the impact and some locals took the deer and bled it out in the ditch while hanging it from a tree. All the meat will be used, so it isn't a complete waste.

Update on the vehicle. After a $12,000.00 repair bill, it is back to new condition. I went to inspect the work before making a final decision. We decided to take the repaired vehicle, minus a significant amount of money off the purchase price, with the original paint warranty still intact and with a trade-in deal 24 months from now with the price already set. Unless we damage the vehicle ourselves, or put too many miles on it... we already know the price the dealer will give us on trade in 24 months. Funny thing... they had a purchaser ready for our current trade-in, and they want the new one in two years. The new purchaser also happens to know us and therefore trusts that we don't abuse our cars.

What's significant? Unless it was about $12k I still think you're crazy to take that vehicle.

Why? It was repaired and still has warranty. Looks good as new.

repaired vehicles are never as good as one that hasn't been whammied... I worked for some years in autobody.. so... but if you are happy with it.

here's the rub... if you trade every couple of years, so what? As long as the car looks, drives and run as well as it ever did, big deal.

Really the main worry with auto repair is if it were to be in another collision, it wouldn't be as safe as it would have been.

& since the dealer handled it all, it probably wont show on a carfax report later to the second owner. It's also a possibility it had frame damage(airbags deploy?) & would have been a total & now a salvage? Did the dealer make a claim with their insurance or just fix it in house with out Insurance involvement? Either way, They would have had to knock a at least 20% off my negotiated price to even consider taking the same truck.

Agreed, Our damage was grill, headlights, chrome, bumper cover, hood, radiator, and a quarter panel was dented. No straightening needed, no airbags deployed or sensors hit... so I'm not worried about it.
