I'm on tagged.com but it's full of sex crazed lunatics - and scammers. Though, I have made a few friends on there that I consider myself lucky to know.

i have friends that use plenty of fish.

I use adultfriendfinder.com to find my one-night trannies.

Ha! "Friends."
I have found several cool people from the platonic section of my local craigslist, HOWEVER there are enough scammers/bots/psychos that I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

What ever happened to walking up to a person and starting a convo?

I used it for a day, then realized that i am not the kind of guy that women pick up via window shopping.

The people I've seen on OKCupid are either extraordinarily stuck up or completely out of their damn mind. swinglifestyle.com is great if you want very open, no bullshit, fun.

I'll admit, I was on OKCupid for a little while. It completely deserves it's seedy reputation. I got disgusting creepers constantly messaging me asking for one-nighters when my profile clearly stated I was looking for, um, not that. However, like someone else said, I was lucky to meet two people who turned out to be great friends. I'm shooting a wedding for a friend next week who met her husband on PlentyOfFish. He sent her a message, she didn't respond. Then, by chance, they met at a bar that weekend and hit it off really well. Also, my 500lb+ cousin with a studder and a kid met a really nice guy on eHarmony. They're getting married in December.

I actually know two people who got married after they met on lavalife. They are 5+ years into their marriage. I know a fair amount of people who have used POF, but that's a crap load of crazy.

Plenty of fish has been a goldmine, as I was looking for divorced single mothers in the 35+ range. As a single dad I don't go to clubs anymore and opportunities to meet people in real life are slim. In just a few weeks I had more coffee/happy hour meetups then I could handle til I met someone great. Lots of older women keep themselves in shape and have active lifestyles, and while there are crazies there are plenty of "normal" women too. Know what you are looking for and qualify them! I can see online dating for younger folks being treated like a hookup playground though. Even though online dating has worked I still think the best way to meet people is friend-of-a-friend which has worked well too.

plentyoffish while I was single. Met a few great guys on there including one of my best friends Also, I think the level of crazy relates directly to where you live

Apparently you and I are the only ones that do that. Who needs online dating when you can just walk up and talk to them. Now where is my Staples button.... .... ahh there it is! THAT WAS EASY!

I do that too but I think most people relate you to 'crazy' when you walk up to a stranger and start talking to them out of the blue nowadays.

Well they had to do it back in the old day or we wouldn't be here. I'm rarely online, I actually like to get out.

perhaps age also plays a part in this conversation? I, for one, am what the media has dubbed a 'technology baby' - we are well known for being raised by 4chan rather than the television and being able to multi-task dozens of online functions seamlessly. Talking in public, though? We're not really great at that apparently (although I consider myself to be quite out-going and sociable)
