Weird habits of your pets
< on 4/8/2011 10:28 PM >

I have two cats. One sleeps, eats, enjoys laying on you with her bum in your face. The other likes to lick my couch, he opens one of my doors (which is scary when it happens at 2am and all you hear is the creeeek sound), plays in my linen drawer and had recently taken to playing with the door stopper in my bathroom. Does anyone else have weird pets?

One of my german shepherds is the anti-smoking dog. He HATES lighters if you spark the flint on one he will bark as loud as possible in your face and all his hair stands up.

My other one tries to comfort you if you're sick, especially if you cough a lot. He will climb onto the bed or couch and sit next to you if you cough he tilts his head and puts his paw on you.

The anti smoking dog would come in handy if you were quitting smoking.

Dogs are awesome.

Growing up I had a shepherd/collie mix and she was scared of lightning and would hide in my closet. The same dog would howl if you said nanoo nanoo (from Mork & Mindy), so of course I did it all the time cause it was hilarious. She also would always know when I was sad and would sit with me and put her head in my lap.

Maxx howls at police/ambulance sirens.

Gordon freaks out and does a weird dance if we say "Venus Flytrap".

Killdozer doesn't like when doors are left open, even partially, and will bark and whine until we shut it.

Last time I was in Canada, Ikea was selling little stuffed cats that happened to perfectly match my own cats' colorations. I bought them and brought them home.

Then I noticed something weird. Sometimes when I'd come back home, the fake cats would be moved over to the bowls as if they'd been eating.

The gray one is a little bitch. She yells and whines when I leave the house if I've been home for a while. Like now, with me being off work due to an ankle injury. I've been off for a week, I may be off for at least one more week, due to scheduling, so she'll yell and whine when I leave since I've been home.

Otherwise, they're both thieves. Little rotten stinking thieves who will steal anything that's not nailed down and hide it behind the couch. Stuffed animals are their favorites.

Shael - OMG that is too funny! Too bad they didn't have little bandit type markings.

Steed - Ok how perfectly matched is that? Love it.

SaraBellum - Really, venus flytrap?

My x bf's Mom had this cat that if she didn't say "goodbye Gabby Weeks" when she left the house, the cat would cry. If she said goodbye, not a peep.

I have some more oddball cat things but I'll hold off. . .

How in the world did you figure that out? Its not like "venus flytrap" is something that comes up a lot in everyday conversation.

My cat Gizmo loves loves loves to lick plastic bags and I recently caught her licking a newspaper!
My cat Odin loves playing fetch with rubber balls (he'll bring it right back to you) and he also likes playing hide and go seek.

Gordon's been in my life for a long time. It wasn't until about two years ago that we found out about "Venus Flytrap". He also responds to "Would you like fries with that?"

Took my dachshund backpacking last fall, and gave him a bowl full of dry food (which is what he normally eats). He would scrape it out of the bowl with his paw, rub it around in the dirt with his nose until he got about half of the food out of the bowl, then eat it.

He never does anything like that at home.

My cats love licking plastic bags too. They usually do it to make noise to get attention, I think. Most of the time they do it before meals. Sometimes they get in trouble playing with plastic bags, as Supercat here found out.

They like the taste of wood finish. Seriously.

There's a bitter taste in the sealant. Nothing poisonous since it's usually not water soluble. One of my cats had a thing for an old coffee table I had that was poorly finished and leaked pine pitch. Little snot liked to lick the knots where the sap would bead up.

My dog licks spots on our deck like nobody's business. There are spots he has worn down an eighth of an inch. He won't be happy when I sand and seal it later this spring.

I have two cats and they're both weird...although I wonder if there's such a thing as a "normal" cat? Marilyn has a stuffed catnip mouse that she almost never plays with but she always keeps next to her her when she's sleeping, like a teddy bear; we call it the Kitten. Most nights when we go to bed we hear her meowing for it, then the meows get muffled when she picks it up, then she runs into our room and jumps into bed with it! Also, I recently bought another "Kitten" toy exactly like the original but with less cat slobber and filth caked on it, in the hopes of replacing the old one, but she just obsesses over both of them now; sometimes I'll get up in the morning and they'll both be lined up, facing the same way side-by-side on the bedroom floor. She also digs at the sides of her water bowl before drinking.

Cy is definitely the "weird cat" in the house, though. She likes to walk across the back of the couch and sniff people's faces...I mean like, eyelids; our guests generally do not like this, lol. She also sometimes snaps into psycho-mode, which we call "rabies," where she just tears around the house making horrible noises and throwing herself on the floor with a wild look in her eye. It's in those moments that I fear for my ankles. She likes to lie on my boyfriend's chest and gaze lovingly at his face, then stretch her front legs out until her paws are touching his chin. She is also a pen thief and she can't wear a collar without getting her bottom jaw trapped in it trying to chew it off.

My cat fluffy likes to lick the blinds. My dog Jessie likes to nap at the bottom of the stairs right under the lip. My dog Josie spasms, and huffs and puffs when she wants you to pet her, and my cat Tiger spends 9 hours a day laying on the kitchen table. They're pretty normal.

I'm really glad to hear my cat isn't the only one who licks things. Clyde likes to lick my couch (do not replace the u with an o LOL). The other day I was on the couch and he was laying on the pillow behind my head and I felt his paw on my head and the next thing I knew he was rubbing his face on my head. WTF?

I read somewhere that cats like to put their favourite toys near their food dishes, sometimes plunking them right in the middle of them. My cat also scratches around his food and water bowls. Especially after I have mopped the floor etc. Apparently he is marking it with his scent to claim it as his.
He loves q-tips and goes nuts trying to get the lid off the container.
He also has a weird habit of munching and grooming my hair after I shampoo it. Without fail. He comes over, sticks his face in my hair, rubs it all around, gets his paws in there and starts shoving and kneading, and if you let him continue he then starts to bite my hair.

And he loves to headbutt my kids. Won't let them cuddle him but loves to climb up on whatever I'm doing and annoy me until I give him attention. The cat has issues.
