sketches?
< on 6/8/2010 8:19 PM >

Does anyone else sketch out what they did instead of relying on just photography?

Here's an example of one I finished recently.
Original photo: This gentleman wanted to test his boat out before he took it through a large drain for one of his projects. We took it through the city's drains to make sure it would hold.
(Photo is DJ Craig's, taken by the nice man who helped blow up the boat.)

This is the sketch I did:

It's goofy, but I like it better than the photograph. :]

is that a penis as a hand?

Tourism, human circulation considered as consumption is fundamentally nothing more than the leisure of going to see what has become banal.

Here's some more sketches that are exploring related. These are all story based, not photo based.

1. I took my pet rat on a walk downtown.

2. Drain monstas. (Taking new people to a drain is wonderfully entertaining.)

3. When you explore with DJ Craig you have to run. even in the drains. all the time.

4. I have an irrational fear about the homeless.

5. A quick sketch done of a cool place with a quote added on top.

6. One of my favorite quotes.

7. About the time I went draining by myself.

Does any one else have sketches? Please add them

I do sketches all the time. Often because I'm too lazy to do anything else, but mostly as a means of getting out an idea for something I want to elaborate on later. Examples:

When I get an idea for something, I usually draw out a little thumbnail sketch to get a basic idea of what I want to do. I do a LOT of these. Here's a collage of a bunch that were all inspired by Acid Bath songs:

A few I've elaborated on. Such as this:

and:

Here's a few more sketches that I turned into more finished pieces:

I realize that these are kinda large, but it's 4:30 am and I'm too lazy to go back and re-size it all.

I love your sketch style :]. Are you using an old book for a sketch book?

I have yet to turn my stuff into anything. Kudos to you

You're all awesome... Every single sketch here. But, Oryx, your last one and the thumbnail of it are killer. I'm going to guess System of a Down inspired, from the words 'System' and 'Down' in the thumbnail? System happens to be my favorite band ever, so that helps.

Edit - have to show some love for the first rafting drain sketch too.
