Worst Decision (Non-Injury Causing)

Once, while trying to get to a hard to reach spot in a massive abandonment, i decided that it would be a good idea to just keep going (using increasingly more difficult and precarious methods) instead of ever stopping and turning back the way I came. I ended up almost falling to my death a few times, and i was separated from my group for over an hour with no way to contact them if i got stuck or injured.

tl;dr
DUMB.

Not too long ago, I took three friends draining. If you've seen the pictures, it's a massive riverside tunnel entrance that stretches for 1.5 km before surfacing at a railway bridge.

There, to get to the other side of the intersecting bridge, you have to pass through one of five slots that are a little over a meter tall, depending on the water level. Right now it is iced over.

First time I went, I took one step and my foot went through the ice, getting a bit of water in my boot. The second time, the ice was thick enough and three of us made it across. The third time, disaster struck.

There were four of us, and in my usual hurry I was a fair distance ahead of everyone else. Then the ice cracked, and I fell directly down into the freezing sludge water. It went up over my knees, and my camera was almost dunked. Unpleasant, but I don't think it was caused by poor decision-making.

Okay, the nomination goes to the user known as Altf4. As I was pulling myself back onto the ice shelf, she ran over to help me, cracking off more of the ice and plunging us both back in again. She slid in at more of an angle, soaking herself up to her waist, as well as her backpack.

Anyway, it was a very unpleasant bath and the water we poured out of our boots was opaque black.

Aftermath pics:

Note that although my knee was injured, it was caused by my actions, not her ill-advisable attempt of a rescue.

UEing a landfill because of outta date maps listing it as a sand and gravel pit, good thing it wasn't in the summer! (We only wanted to get up high and at night shots of the runway of a nearby airport)

Oh, I forgot that's what started the whole getting chased by rednecks in pickup trucks thing

Oh and I got back into that room that has eluded most explorers, this past weekend. Had to squeeze between the 500lb trap door but it was worth it. Just developed the film, maybe I'll get walgreens to picture CD it for me and post online. (we don't have [working] film scanners in photolab ... pathetic I know.)

Going draining between thunderstorms. The one that had just passed had lighting in the clouds to the East, and the one on the way was flickering to the West. Baaaad idea. I didn't die, though.

I nominate a buddy of mine who flipping a "Plant Emergency" switch in a semi-active power. As we were leaving it was the first time we ever saw security on the site in over 10-15 trips. We had to hide behind some buildings and tall grass while he drove around the complex. Finally we had to escape through a motion sensor field and get pass a couple fences without being seen.

Actually that was pretty fun. Maybe it was a Best Decision (non-injury causing).
