What's up everyone? I'm from the other side of the pilot world... Air Traffic Control. Been doing it for almost 2 years, and love it. Checked out in the Tower, and in Radar Training now. You pilots scare me sometimes with the things you want to do haha

As I am further removed from the pilots, I maintain the ATC equipment.

It's good to know that there's somebody else on here that's on the ground side. I'm pulling my resources together to go into training myself here fairly soon. I've loved aviation for a majority of my life, and I've recently found that ATC is the best way to follow my passion without my disabilities getting in my way.

lol Hey out of curiousity, how long did it take you to get hired? I took the AT-SAT and scored an 83 last june, but I never heard back from them. I called and the told me to re-apply for the public opening, and I did, but didnt hear anything back. Am I not qualified or is there something else I should do? -Patrick

Have they done your background check? OR have you only done the AT-SAT? Truthfully, it is so nuts right now with all the new hires, and they are trying to hire all the people that were in school for 4 years getting the degree, then going to the off the street hires. I went to school, as that was the only way to get into ATC other than military, and graduated in 2007. I was at the Oklahoma City Academy May 2nd, 2008 (Official hire date). But, it varies for everyone. My best advice for you is to call once a week and check up with them and figure out your status. A lot of people are having the same problem as you.

I did take the AT-SAT but never had the background check done. I'm not finished with college yet, and the ATC guys I know mostly got in to it through programs like you did. I think I'll wait until I get through college (degree non atc related) and re-apply. After all I'm pretty sure My AT-SAT test expires this summer.
