Star Trek Online

Well, I don't know if anyone's been following it...but Star Trek Online went gold last week.

The open beta started yesterday and it's scheduled for full release next month.

If you want to give it a shot, head to tentonhammer.com and see if they have any codes left to try it for the next two weeks, I got one there around 7pm eastern standard time last night. The beta opened yesterday and it's scheduled to go till the 26th. Depending on how well it plays, I might stick with it.

Good luck.

I got into the closed beta a couple of days before the last play test. I am now in the open beta.

If you are a Star Trek nerd (like I think we all are on this board... ;p) you will probably love it. Just a warning, however, it does have a fairly steep learning curve, and things don't really pick up until after level 12 or so (when you receive your first non-newbie ship). Still, it is an awesome game I plan on playing for some time to come.

So do I, after only a little bit of playtime...for me, it's the WoW killer I've been waiting for. Already traded in my sword for a phaser.

Yup, I cancelled my WoW account also. Time runs out on the 17th.

I have plenty of concerns for this game, like the fact Klingons seem tacked on at the last minute, but all-in-all I think it'll be a blast.

Definitely, mine runs out on the 19th....also the guys I play with are leaving WoW and heading to STO. Most of us met by playing text based rpg games, called MUSH'es way back when. There's not many of them left, but you actually had to create a character, write an involved bio and roleplay.

So far, after about 6 hours of play...I know most of the geeks around here would love it. Not sure what they're going to charge a month yet, average fee is about 15 bucks a month, cheap entertainment. The box game runs about 50 dollars, comes with 30 days of play time and some nifty bonuses for preordering depending on where you buy it. The copy I ordered comes with a game code for a special Borg bridge officer. Some come with TOS era uniforms or a special ship option or other stuff. Each retailer got a different bonus.

Oh, one more thing, if you preorder now, you get a special game code that will allow you to play on the 29th, 3 days after the beta ends and a whole 3 days before the general release on the 2nd.

Atari wants to mod this to console too. They would like to see Xbox 360 and PS3 players be able to come play too.

I have a friend key that I can donate to anyone that wants to try the game. All you need to do is download the client. Give me a pm and I'll pass it along.

Sounds interesting! I'll read about it. Currently I'm entwined in PWI.
