So I make my first bump key, I go try it out on a building I have access to and discover that I can only open lock in the knob locks, even thought the key I used is a copy of one that opens an outside push bar door. Here it is

Bump keys are not an exact science. Even if you made a copy, the notches could be a tiny bit more or less forward than what you copied. At the same time, keys are made of a weaker metal than lock tumblers, and can be worn into place after so many hits. Truth is, looking at that bump key, I would buy a professional one, and start there.

your bumps are huge. They just need to be big enough to tap the very bottom of the pins.
