got this thing for xmas. what a pos. first the software wouldnt install. fine. i dont need the software. then im adding shit to it via windows explorer, and it keeps not working and i cant figure out why/ itll add a couple songs then suddenly the computer cant find it and everything crashes and it wont recognize the stupid thing again until i reboot windows. now the software finally works but it keeps finding songs that i guess arent up to its high standards and the damn thing cxrashes when i try and add them and i have to restart the whole computer bc the software crashes and "this usb device cannot be recognized" and SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK.

i said "just get me a cheap mp3 player until i can afford a better ipod for myself, since my other ipod crapped out.

and this is what i end up with. does anybody have one of these fucking things?!?!

I had an RCA Opal that did something similar. One of the reasons I asked for the new one I got. I hate Microsuck, but the Zune players are quite nice and as much as I hate DRM, you can disable it and everything just falls into place once you download the latest software from the Zune support site. I'm guessing the Ipods all do the same as well.

Can you get the firmware to update? It sounds like you're having issues with that portion of it, or the player isn't compatible with your pc's USB hub drivers.

It sounds almost like a problem I had way back when I used to play sci fi FPS online games with a joystick. My video drivers didn't like the joystick drivers. Once I installed modded drivers made for my video card, everything worked out fine and the crashes went away.

Sometimes, some video cards have problems with USB storage devices. With the advent of PCI-X, it's not so much of a problem anymore, but the old AGP bus cards hated them and wouldn't play nice with USB storage devices, like flash drives and flash mp3 players, and other USB devices, such as printers and joysticks and would crash out your computer. If you're using an old AGP video card, I would suggest checking out Omega or Detonator drivers for video and the update should resolve the problem. Just look up those drivers through Google, the websites for them usually have the latest modified drivers for download.

You might want to check into that issue though. If all else fails, contact Samsung support, and keep on them till you get someone who speaks english and can understand what you're saying.

I hav no idea why. Is there any way you can narrow it down to a certain song that is messing up the transfer?

i dont know. this thing is a pos. i cant afford an apple computer, haha. i had an ipod but it crapped out on me. and i figured until i had more money i would just get a cheap mp3 player in the interim. this one was 50 bucks. and its a pos. now i updated the software, but now it takes a half hour to add one song. lol. and then theyre not listed under artists bc i guess it doesnt like however things are tagged, even though they show up with the artist's name on the stupid software on the computer, and so i have to go in the "file browser" on the mp3 player, and everything is a jumbled mess, i dont want this thing anymore.

First off, for transfers make sure you're plugging into a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 1. USB 2.0 is obviously faster and *might* be more reliable in your situation. If it takes a long time to transfer, pick an appropriate amount of songs to fill the device with out sending too many files and just let it go over night then. My crappy Sandisk 2.0 GB player takes forever too and a 30 minute transfer to fill it up isn't out of the ordinary.

Also, like I said before if a certain song crashes during the transfer, just don't send it to the damn thing then. It's probably a corrupted or messed up MP3 or something the device doesn't support.

As for ID3/4 tags, well that's up to you to make sure they're all set up nicely. But it is odd that the tags show up good in the software but not on the device. I recommend downloading a free program to assist in setting up good ID3 tags (Google something), or using windows XP to do it (R.click->Properties->Summary Tab->Advanced). WinXP even lets you do bulk updates so you can at least do bulk changes to things like Artist/album/genre/year. But you'd have to do the song title individually for each file. Also there are two versions of ID tags. There is IDv3 and IDv4. Make sure that the tag version you are using is compatible with the device you're using...but normally they should just work.

Finally use the internet. Goto the website for the manufacture and look through their support part of the site or support forums. If that doesn't work well, search Google. There is always someone who will have the same issue of you and there's a good chance it's documented on the internet.

I am not trying to be an ass when I say this, (even though it sounds like it) but you have three choices. I have ranked them in order of what will give you the most satisfaction. You need to pick one:

-Get the support you need from the manufacture or the internet. If not call the fuckers and get support.
-Return the damn thing.
-Throw a UER pity party.

Sorry, this thread also comes across as a tech support request thread along with being a pissed off post. You can take my advice and do what you'd like with it. I'm trying to get the device working well for you. I'd rather spend my time helping you with tech issues than sympathizing about an issue which most likely can be resolved.

She was just voicing her displeasure in the device not asking for support or a pity party.

I got 2 pairs of work pants, a sweater, and a candle for Christmas from my family. I would've taken a broken MP3 player. At least I could've sold it for money.

My customers at work however got me a bottle of wine, and roughly 40$ in cash between a couple of them. Redemption!

honestly im just gonna return the thing. lol. i dont have the patience for this. i have been using an older nano from one of my roommates for about 6 months now since my ipod crapped out, and the grand plan had been to finally return it to him and use this other thing as a stop gap until i have more money i can burn and then i could get a better ipod like the 120 gb one. but this is just too much work. i tried all kinds of stuff, and it became obvious this thing would require me to like overhaul my entire mp3 collection bc it cant seem to understand itunes' naming conventions and so its missing file info on tons of things, it freezes a lot when i am trying to add songs, and for some reason takes a half hour to add each song, and most importantly i hate the buttons on it, it constantly thinks i am hitting a different one. so im gonna fight with best buy and hopefully theyll let me return it. ugh.

Yah, I had a Sansa c150 that bricked on me last week in the middle of a song. I still need to go through the customer support hell on that one myself sometime soon.
