New Feature: Translate to French / Nouveau: Traduire en franais!

Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
Hello French People,

I've added a new feature to the site for those of you who speak French.

If you put the text "Quebec" or "QC" in your "Location", a "translate to french" button will appear at the bottom of every post on the site. You can use that button to translate the post from English to French. It's a machine translation, so it's not perfect. It also won't work on really long posts or posts full of images.

Enjoy!

it's impressive how the Québec forum shifted from a mostly anglophone board few years ago , to a vastly francophone now.

The anglos fleed while the francos joined !!!

Not entirely true, some of us sometimes hide and pretend to be 100% quebec francophone since it's like talking in our own secret language that is not able to be penetrated by any machine known to man. Kinda like the 3D version of thug talk using moor's code.

Yep, look at the top right of any post, you'll see a "Translate to English" link.

When I hit that link I get an object error. Google Chrome also does machine translation on entire pages - if you load a page in any language other than your preferences default, Chrome recognizes the language and offers to translate it for you. I believe it's the same translation engine as Google language tools.

uer's translation system sucks.

It was never fully operational. It doesn't recognize accents and messes up many words.

I've spent some time fixing it today. It now does a better job of handling line breaks and it doesn't ignore accents anymore. It should work better now!

Important: Google Translate API v2 is now available as a paid service only, and the number of requests your application can make per day is limited. As of December 1, 2011, Google Translate API v1 is no longer available; it was officially deprecated on May 26, 2011. These decisions were made due to the substantial economic burden caused by extensive abuse. For website translations, we encourage you to use the Google Website Translator gadget.

Damn... that sucks.
