While at the mall today... I was walking from the parking lot to the mall entrance, on the lot side of the service road, when I noticed a 4 or 5 year old boy run from the mall entrance. The boy's mother, somewhat behind, was yelling at him. By this point the kid was running right onto the service road with traffic in both directions. Now, I was close enough that I could have jumped in, forced the already slow drivers to stop and grab the kid out of harm's way. Before I could do anything, the mother bolted forth really fast and yelled "Don't go into traffic -- ARE YOU FUCKIN' INSANE?!?". Then she belted the kid across the head, swearing at him some more. Now, far be it from me to tell parents how to, uh, parent, but clearly this mother was distracted and/or neglectful enough to allow her spawn to get away from her control and run into potentially dangerous traffic. If you're going to bring kids into the world, manage them properly.

You do not know what you are talking about. Granted that woman was fairly incompetent, but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

If you have to hit your kids to control their behavior, it is because you are failing as an authority figure.
Brute force is the last resort of the incompetent. | |

Should have let the kid get hit by traffic. That will teach him.

Most kids at 4 years old will occasionally run away from their parents. They have short attention spans and are easily distracted, so are the kids, LOL. Anyway, at least she did something about it, many parents don't care at all and let their kids run free. As a parent, I have to give some freedom to my child, hope that she stops and looks before going into traffic, and that when I yell she will come back. You can not hold onto a kid forever, you must let them learn boundaries.... however a busy mall service road isn't exactly the best place to teach your kids boundaries.
You can't be lost if you don't care where you are! |
