The Railroad Museum of Long Island hosts an informational lecture by Mr. Bob Diamond (he's alive?), president of the Brooklyn Historic Railway Association; along with a video documentary by Long Island Oddities Editor, Mr. John Leita, related to: "The Abandoned Atlantic Avenue, Long Island RR Tunnel, Brooklyn, NY." Explore this long-forgotten western terminus of the Long Island Railroad mainline to Greenport. In 1979 Mr. Diamond rediscovered and opened the abandoned tunnel. Leading from the shore of the East River, this tunnel was the outset for wealthy New Yorkers to journey to Boston in the mid 1800’s via Greenport, L.I. and Stonington, Connecticut. Admission is FREE and open to the public. Information tables for the Railroad Museum of Long Island, the Brooklyn Historic Railway Association and Long Island Oddities will be available. Venue: Suffolk County Historical Society 300 West Main Street Riverhead, NY 11901 For more information: http://www.rmli.org n2qhv@arrl.net 631-765-2757
