Yes, Branding..
CONSIDERING getting one in the not to distant future.. (like 8 months to 1.5 yrs) It will have a significant meaning behind it, hence the waiting period.
Just wondering what to watch out for, etc. It will be done in a private setting, not professionally. With that being said, I am medically trained, so post wound care is not a worry for me.
Just want the finer points on how it should be done, how long applied, etc. I also have been informed that to get a good scar you cannot take care of it like a normal burn, but hey, I've been burned real bad before, and I took good care of those, and they still left a mark...
So ya, comments, suggestions, am I completely nuts for wanting this?

brandings tend to spread and scar uneven... ie they turn into globs.
id go get a flesh removal cutting from someone skilled...you wont loose detail but you'll get a solid scar like a brand.
but if you do get branded you gotta go to a pro... even if you do autoclave what you are gonna use somewhere beforehand its gonna be so hit or miss the result will end up prob sucking... you possbily will go to shallow and just end up with a painful burn that barely scars which is better that the otehr way it could go by pressing too firmly for 1/2 a sec and burning down to the fat later or heaven forbid thru something other important.... its really a finesse thing and you cant practice - it would be one sec all or nothing on yourself...why not go to a pro and get something done safely that will look much better?

I completely agree with Rana on this one.
I have a decent size brand on my back, was a design I cam up with.
It was done by a good friend of mine who is professional body mod. artist.
I wouldnt even consider going to anyone but a pro.
Some tips...
- Dont get a "Stamp brand" where they just heat up the design and press it on. It will be uneven no doubt. Your skin has curves and most stamps are flat, this will cause some spots to scar deeper then others throwing the end result waaaay off. Mine was done by me drawing a design first then the artist cleaning up the art and transferring to my skin in ink kinda like a tatt. Then he Basically traced over the design using a metal tool which he kept at an even temp by a nearby torch.
- Brands should be also be post treated a lil diff. then a tatt. were with a tatt you want minimal scaring the opposite is true with a brand. While you want to keep it clean and sterile(it is a burn) you want to also semi abuse it during the healing process.- peeling scabs off in the shower etc..
- VENTILATION is key during the brand. burning flesh is such a happy scent. Mine was done in my glass blowing studio with a Serious fan drawing the smell outside.
- Be prepared for cool little sounds, crackling and sizzling mostly.
- Some people use "Carterization" tools, while this is what surgeons may use in a hospital it is not made to burn neatly into the skin. They are made for capillaries and viens and the heat coming from the tip will die out once it enters your skin causing uneven lines also.
Hope all this helps, and your already thinkin smart about it by asking questions first, just make sure you do the same of the person burning you.

Pain is kinda a subjective thing, its really not as bad as you think getting it done. The healing process afterwards could be a little a rough depending on how big it is and were it is.

Ya well...
Apparently I'm completely nuts for considering this.. the woman who was going to be "involved" in this process has flaked off on me now..
Still considering one, or something different than a tattoo, but it will not be that design I had in mind..

Another option which wouldn't have the nice raising would be a tattoo that looks like a scar done with pinks and whites, maybe tan? Check out bmezine.com for different styles of scars, brands, etc and some how-to's. I saw a picture of a home-done brand of a star that ended up looking like a big blob with 5 vague lobes...unfortunately (furtherly unfortunate?) it was of a pretty good size, a couple of inches at least, I think.
Drains, tunnels, bridges and caves mostly.

Thanks for the info! I'm still considering branding, but I really don't want it in a clinical setting.
