A few explorers, mostly from Montreal, Paris and other fine places are preparing a camping week-end to McNab's during the summer. Date hasn't been fixed yet.

As for sleeping inside ruins, it's nothing exciting but it can be quite cool. As long as the air is fine. Get some hammocks.

Usually the air inside tunnels is pretty musty, almost raw

Indeed, I still say sleeping inside one of the tunnels is a very bad idea. Who knows what kind of crap you could pick up down there breathing that air all night. Just not worth it as far as I'm concerned.
I would much rather sleep in a tent out in the fresh air!

Actually, I think Connaught Battery is farther north than that, closer to the northern end of Ferguson's Cove Road.

Here are the coordinate of where I think Connaught Battery is:

44º36'18.74"N 63º33'39.37"W

Put those into http://maps.google.ca or Google Earth

That is Connaught Battery. unfortunately there is not a lot left to see anymore. There was a deep trench behind the gun platforms that gave access to the magazines and a concreate crew shelter at the open end of the trench. It's all been filled in now and turned into a park. The new building is the DND harbour monitoring station which replaced the one at Hugonin battery on McNab's. If you want something to try and find there use to be a semi underground structure in the woods off the old road into the battery. Have Fun.

Now when you say "off the old road", is there a path? Or is it something you literally have to go out of your way for?

Hmm.. interesting, I wondered where they moved that to.

That means that Hugonin is probably open to the public again, but indefinately now.

I think it's still "fenced" off, because the building I thought was deemed unsafe (I think there was a piece on it on the Friends of McNabs' website). Not sure if the land is still owned by DND or not.

These days, you never know, but it's probably part of Parks Canada now. I guess the best bet of finding out is the archives...even though I don't like going there...

It's been a few years since I have been. There wasn't a path back then. I don't want to take to much of the sport out of it for you, but I'll tell you that it's in the woods towards Purcell's Cove Rd.

Yeah, Hugonin is still owned by DND last I heard and your not supposed to be in there, but it is not very hard to get into. The original level of Hugonin is over 100 yrs old, used to be a school for the people that lived on Mcnabs. When I made the Mcnabds island entry to the data base I planned to have a gallery for each fort inside the Mcnabs link, but now since we can only have one gallery for each entry its going to have to be split up. I have quite a few photos of the island and plan to get many more this summer to document the entire island.

this is why websites are better than the database...
i'd love to see someone do up a website for the Maritimes, or NS rather than use the db. i have zero web skillz though, but would contribute.

Yeah, I'd probably contribute too, plus there's a lot of places that are part of the Defense Complex that aren't in the DB

When I make entries like McNabs in the DB, I split them up into separate locations. With the batteries at Point Pleasant Park, I didn't list it as PPP but separately as PP Battery, Cambridge Battery, Ogilvie and Prince of Wales Tower. Four locations, four complete galleries.
