Monitor repair worth it?

I've got a 4 year old Samsung SyncMaster 753DF monitor - 17" w/.20 dot pitch. Recently the bottom half of the screen will start "vibrating" left to right at random, usually when something bright is on the screen.

Any idea what could be causing it? Worth the time to repair? I've already ordered a 19" Samsung to replace it, but I hate to toss this one because of 1 problem.

1) Try degaussing it...
2) Bring the resolution and color depth down one step to make sure it's not the video card (mine has a broken fan so it does weird things like that at anything higher than 1024x768)
3) Give me a moment to see if I can find the "monitor repair" book I used to have... I'm quite sure there are adjustment screws inside...

Monitor repair is rarely worth it. Even if you figure out what is wrong replacement parts are impossible to find or astronomically priced.

There are a few things you can do, like manually degaussing the screen with a very strong magnet. And there may even be a solder joint that's loose that you can easily repair, but, generally, if your time is valuable it's not worth investing in monitor repair - if you had some old 24" or some giant cool monitor it might be worth it but for a run o' the mill 17 - not a chance.

I've degaussed it (plus newer monitors automatically degauss when you turn them on anyway). Tried dropping the resolution too.

Oh well, new one will be here Monday

Still have it?

I personally use 2 753DF on a dual head setup and also have 2 other ones in the house. I would like to maybe buy yours for parts (power supply etc etc).

As of now, I don't know much about computers, but it could be a loose screw.
