"secret" submarine base

Figured I'd throw this in, since a friend and I were just talking about it.

The town of Ketchikan, in southern SE Alaska, has a secret naval submarine base located near it. Officially it's an acoustic testing facility where nuclear subs can be monitored for noise leaks in a quiet environment. Unofficially they do all kinds of crazy exercises and top secret shit. Ketchikan also has one of the largest shipyards in the state, which occasionally does some clandestine installations and repairs to visiting subs.

The funny part is that for years the existence of this facility was supposedly top secret... except that everyone in the area knew about it. Fishermen would get subs and wacky sonar noise showing up on their fish finders, and local tour operators would point out the island to their clients. "On your left is the Area 51 of naval warfare...". My friend was telling me how a co-worker from the area was being briefed on this facility when he was in the navy, and shocked the officers by saying "oh yeah, pretty much everyone in the state knows about that place".

Anyway, now that the acoustic research part has been privatized and declassified, here's some links to it:

pretty cool stuff, makes you wonder whats NOT declassified yet

Ive heard of this facility or read somewhere it was messin with the whales or some such theory.

Also sort of related Ive been reading for years about something even lower than VLF submarine radio, its been linked to some unexplained sounds in places like New Mexico. An entire mountain range alleged to give off low barely audible sounds at time, some suggest it is a research project to send radio waves through the earths mantle that can be received by subs at sea as the waves apparently propagate the through to the ocean floor??? Sounds kinda far fetched but I guess with enough RF watts at the right frequency it could be done. Maybe on the verge of ultrasound if you can feel it or hear it.

The weirdest sub communication system I've heard about was one the Russians supposedly came up with. They would breed rabbits and separate the young from the mother at a certain age, then send the litter of baby rabbits out with a sub on patrol. The mother rabbit was hooked up to an EEG, and every month at an appointed check-in time, the crew of the sub would kill one of the rabbits, supposedly causing the mother's brainwaves to register something.

This was from the book "Supernature" by Lyall Watson, which discusses other fun stuff like telepathic spying, UFOs, and telekinetics. More than half the "cases" were from the former USSR where "official records have disappeared", so it can be taken with several bowls of salt.

yeah that takes the cake for weird I think but the tel=pathic spying thing is taken very seriously by U.S. and the former Soviets

the Army calls it "remote viewing" and the even set up a school to teach/develop it in individuals that demonstrate some tele-pathic ability

I find it hard to believe but I am always willing to admit there are things I cant and may never understand. It would be pretty cool surprised someone hasnt used it in a movie.

I just saw a movie preview along those lines, except it was an FBI remote viewing program used to track down serial killers.

Naturally the pychics go nuts and turn into killers themselves, it's a pretty predictable plot
