Um, thanks I think bill bisset is a genius. I'm just kinda green but keen. Discussion of the bricked over areas below Wharf Street are on this thread somewhere. Also check archival photos for some intriguing clues. Meggaman: Totally. 5X6 = 30, so that's the first 6, only two more are needed for access. Seriously though, 30 bucks seems like a hell of a lot for a cab ride around Victoria. I would have walked and invested in batteries and alcohol. To each his own.

Not to sound too much like a noob but can you post a link to the the 'archival photos' Also I don't even know if I should bother bringing this up but I live pretty close to the Ross Bay Cemetery, I've always figured nothing goes on their after dark as their is a full time security guard there, but I went for a quick jog the other night and decided to run down the ally besides the cemetery and the homes (on the left if your facing the ocean) and I happened to see two groups of about 10 people each standing around just acting kind of sketchy at around midnight...I know, I know, it's pretty lame, but I was surprised to even see anyone in their after dark since the cemetery is supposed to close 'one hour before dark' every night. I know it doesn't prove anything I just think it's another clue that there is a lot more of stuff going behind the scenes in Victoria...now listen quietly and you might be able to hear 'no prints' mind explode... I haven't read Michelle Remembers (sp?), but I have read almost every page of this thread and from what I can tell the book talks about underground tunnels in the Ross Bay Cemetery...but wasn't their a lot of controversy about this book? Weren't her accusations a result of hypnotherapy or repressed memories?... Please correct me if I'm wrong or please enlighten me (and this thread) to her story if you have read this book...(but please don't tell me to read the book as I would if I could but I'm currently finishing my Masters Degree and I've got more books to read than I care to think about)... From what I understand she and her cult traveled through tunnels to the Cemetery where they would do ceremonies and such, but also I understand the cult's 'compound' was in the Gorden Head area so if the book says they traveled from the compound to the cemetery that seems to be impossible. Edit: Thanks google... 1)http://en.wikipedi...Michelle_Remembers 2)http://members.sha...helleremembers.htm

Well, they would travel from Gordon Head to the cemetery underground wherever possible. Topside, they'd travel in a fleet of maroon Lexus' and take up all the handicapped parking spots, just because they could.

The archive photos are scattered throughout the thread. Otherwise, they may be found at a location that features BC ARCHIVES. Michelle Remembers would make an excellent Sunday Night Movie of the Week, circa 1982 and only if it was on CBC. That aside, the woman who wrote it now heads up an organization that helps enable positive self-change for people who have suffered through emotional and economic hardship. The book represents a dark period in her own life. What she does now is rewarding and important.

What what? "First, once upon a time Victoria got its water from a large cistern under old town. For a long time the cistern was empty but burried, and people found their way down their through left over water lines. I am not sure what happened to the cistern, if it was filled in during the 1980s or not. But the location should be easy to locate on older city plans. " Via: http://vicbc.tribe...-9b0b-4327cbc0be6f

If I'm not mistaken, it was cemented in during the 50s when road crews were doing construction. KK might be able to offer more insight on this than me though.

but i dont deny that ther iz some sort of under ground remaing contruction frum the past tenants of this city, i have been on the " old fort street " wich is under ground indeed, no deneing that, no way, ive seen it, and if i have seen that, then ther must, MUST, be more to see. so kk, have u seen the "old fort street"? du u no wat i am refering 2? have u heard the stories about how the city that is victoria now, was once down at sea level? if u look at the city from on the johnson street bridge, u can see the gradual ascent up the parking lot ( on the left side of the bridge ) and then it levels off to the street with all the shops , that was not the original level the city was on, it was down at sea level, apparently. i have had this theory confirmed by two seperate sources, each very different from one another, some dude in high school, and the other, some 50 yeer old dude i used to werk with who used to werk in a old building down town. the older dude, who i used to werk with, told me that when he went into the basement of his building, he cud see the old window panes, wich wer originaly on street level, out looking the old streets. the dude frum my high school ( wich i did not graduate from cus i was taking english study tips frum no print )told me that victoria, wen it was young in those old days, had a fire, that spread thruoghout many of the buildings, cus they wer most likely very close, if not connected bak in those days, and most of victoria berned, and they simply ( i dont know why they wudnt think to kleer out all the stuff frum the old buildings )built the new victoria on top, wich is the city we know today. now that sounds just fuckin stupid. thats what i herd him say to me. so as of now, its all heer say. i have herd some more things about this and that, but if u wanna heer them, u'll have to ask deedredge

This seems very doubtful as the Janion has been around for almost 100 years, and the construction that took place to build the condo building next ot the 'gradual ascent up the parking lot' must have dug at least 2 or 3 stories underground...if that area ever was at sea level then it must have been bulldosed and filled in...but to my knowledge they've never had to fill in that area, and what's more old pictures from before the Empress was build (100 years ago) show that the land has always been higher than the water at the gorge...I think I'm going to leave this forum soon with a sense of certainty that these so called secret tunnels do not exist.

I don't know who said this, but it is incorrect. One needn't think too long on this matter. The assertion is that street level(s) in d/t Victoria have been altered throughout the city's 160 or so year history.
This seems very doubtful as the Janion has been around for almost 100 years,

There's a date on the building. Look WAY up and you'll see it. It has been there for more than 100 years. The general area around there is, to the best of my knowledge, solid bedrock. One doesn't dig through solid bedrock.

I don't know where this is going. 'Always' is a long time. Take a closer look at the region's geography/topography circa 1850, and compare that to what you see now.
I think I'm going to leave this forum soon with a sense of certainty that these so called secret tunnels do not exist.

Sad to hear that. You've been around for what...20 minutes? Obviously, you have more experience in this field than me, so go forth Sir, and bother yourself no more with this nonsense.

well, u gus shur showed me, unllleeessss, kk's comment about how " take a look at the gerography blah blah blah circa 1850 and ull see that it is different frum wat u see now" then that meens that the area is different or altered frum what it used to be like, wich kk indicates, is a possible change in area geography ra ra ra. right ? so, the person that disagreed with me can suck it, and kk is a good guy for bakin me up! thanks kk. deedredge

Hi All, A question for the GCG (A. Lien, Tanuki, KublaKhan and JPeterman) - those of you who have seen the actual tunnels (estimated to be 2km long or so)... Would a golf cart fit or be useful in the tunnels? The reason I ask is because I walk downtown to work most mornings at 4:30am and I have seen a golf cart hanging around one of the prominent work sites on a couple of occasions. It was there at about 5am, but disappeared by 8ish when I finished work. Now, I'm no construction guy, but it seems to me that the work site isn't big enough to warrant a golf cart to travel above ground. One could easily use a truck anyway. So I wonder if the golf cart is being used to travel in the tunnels by some work crew. I can't think of any other reason for it. Could there be an entrance left somewhere that would fit a golf cart? Possible? Plausible? Thoughts? Thanks, Yoshkow
