Alright. Ok i just went to check out that tunnel down by the beach by myself. Pitch black out. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was just going to take some night-shots. I drove over there and then found out there was a fence blocking off the area where the entrance is so I hopped that shit and went on in. Jumped down and got to the entrance and noticed it was 3/4 covered by fencing topped with barb-wire. So I hopped that and soaked my foot when I landed on the other side. On my way out I wanted to find an alternate route then hopping that fence with the no-tresspassing sign on it. So I went over to the edge that would bring me down to the beach so I could walk around the fence. On the way I was doing this sneak-run and tripped over some bundles of rebar and hit face first into the concrete median that separates the compound from the beach. Then I hopped down to the next level of concrete medians, slipped, and landed in some prickly bushes...... Fuck.
Again....Somebody explore with me please.

dude im calling you when i get to bc. that rules! msg KublaKhan maybe hell go with you. Good luck ____________________________________ and ther used be tunnels in montreal, quated from the news article below In the 1930s, a Chinese crook named George Hum took over Montreal's Chinese Freemasons, known as the Chee Kung Tong. Hum's election was disputed. His opponents took to arms. Knife and gunfights were rife, although nobody was killed. Gambling and opium dens were suddenly common and, in one 1936 raid, cops discovered stolen swag in 15 houses around Clarke and de la Gauchetière, all linked by a secret underground tunnel. http://www.montrea...0805/kristian.html

Holy shit man ! I took the pic and enhanced it to pull up the image in the reddish light at the back there, and wow, I can hardly believe it. Mavrix is right, this is big stuff, don't go alone, and make sure whoever you take knows their shit, cause this is nothing to fuck with. look at the enhanced image...

And a Close up even more enhanced !

Naw, KK doesn't like urban exploration. Plus...believe me, Im a little stand-offish of going down into the pent-o-gram tunnels with him. I could end up bound to a vertical table with steel restraints. *shifty eyes*

Actually, KK does like urban exploring. Just not when it's pissing rain, cold, and when I'd rather be in a warm bed, asleep. Different life-styles, I guess. Don't worry about the pentagram tunnel thing/Satanism etc. I won't bite. Too hard. Not at first, anyway. It wouldn't be a vertical table: it would be oblique. The restraints are leather, made from lamb-skin, and are soft and supple. It's really quite pleasant. Let's get a closer look at these recent locations, Peterman. I'm with you.

Here it is in better light. I talked to a couple construction workers hanging around there and they both said that this tunnel used to be an escape route from a whore-house. Clearly I know more about this tunnel than them, but I continued to appease them by asking more questions Nice guys.

On another note...While exploring around Victoria I have been exposed to the places in which some people are forced to reside. These nooks and crannies are in just about every neighbourhood. I do not photograph the residences as it would be breaking the privacy of the people who live there. These places and the people who live there are ignored by society and swept under the rug by authority *generalization I know* I feel a burden of shame for my city everytime I come across a squat or needle. While exploring I often come across another epidemic in these areas (temporary residences)....sharps...needles. I photograph them in all their beauty, and in the various ways they are disposed or not-disposed in. The feeling I get from being in the presence of a sharp is strange...it is a cautious and scared feeling, but also a sad one. Sure we have a couple shitty programs that go around and pick up the odd few hypos here and there...but it is not enough. These needles are a hazard to the general public, urban explorers, and the resident-less themselves. I find myself photographing hypodermics all over the city. Its some kind of an addiction for me. It gives me a strange sense of both raising awareness...and peace.
In addition I am taking pictures of every hypodermic needle I find on my school's property, making a collage of it, and handing it into the office at the end of the year. Forgive me...Just an issue I wanted to briefly cover.

One of the janitorial groundskeepers at my school was poked in the leg by a hypodermic that was sticking through a black plastic garbage bag. Someone just threw an un-capped one in and he was walking back to the green metal garbage bin the bag rotated and spun the sharp which gave him a little prick in his right thigh. Fuck. Anyways. Tunnels.

Here's some shots of the Rock Bay Bridge that led up to the tunnel. In the second photo, the tall smokestack on the right is the Victoria Gas Works complex, which is now being cleaned up by BC Hydro.
When I worked for the Victoria School District doing groundskeeping, we used to find syringes all the time at Vic High. The guy I was working with nearly got stuck twice by sharps in the grass when we were weedeating Fairey Tech. Stupid syringes have a clear body, with a blue plunger. Great if the plunger's still in the hole, but if it's gone, the body (with the needle) is nearly invisible. They should make them bright glowing neon orange, so the public is able to see them easily.....
