For a while, the NSA was offering to pay for college, if you dedicated that same amount of time to the NSA after you graduated. I almost considered doing it, then the Marine recruiter got to me. heh.

They are part of the DOD so if you switch over you can get all the benefits of a soldier without the shit

I would love a job like that, but I could never bring myself to work for the US government (or most others). Not only would political issues stand in the way, but I'd be a lot happier with some level of independence and freedom.

This has got me thinking about cool jobs. Anybody know any jobs which give you similar opportunities, but don't require you to work for uncle sam?

There are private intelligence firms throughout the world. Think mercenaries of intel. I dont know a lot about them.

I've thought about that a little, but never really looked into it. I imagine you'd still end up doing work for the government, just contracted out. I suppose it's unrealistic to think I'll find anything that would give elite military type opportunities and not have to work on things that I am politically or morally against...which is a pretty large and strict list.

Yeah I think your pretty fucked there. Just think of the poor bastards that work secret service and hate the president. Thats some loyality to the organization.

That's the problem with any government job. Things are shaken up often and employees are used as political tools. I think you have to be a special type of person to work something like secret service. You have to care a lot about politicians, but not care about "politics." I suppose I am exactly the opposite of that. Hate politicians, but politics interest me.
