You had a few radios before you had your ham licence...

well, the motorola radio i had was programmed to FRS, but i got that radio from an indirect trade i did with another radio i had which my company gave me. i was not able to select ANY frequency i wanted and talk. the channels i had were all public before i got my liscense - after which i programmed in a local repeater and a few other frequencies... other then that i had no radios capable of transmitting before i got my liscense.

Legally speaking, it's 100% legal to own a ham radio without a license. It's only illegal to actually transmit on amateur bands without a license. So from a legal perspective, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having one without a license. -Mike

the quad band antennas are not that big, and some of them collapse so you can go into tight places. The one i have is actually the shortest antenna on my pickup....
