UE Has camo helped you (true stories)

I figure since it is just a hot debate every few months to bring it up where everyone can enjoy their point of view without a ton of nay saying.

I'll be the first to admit Camo is not great in every situation, and most times I do not wear it. I do follow the rules for color though.

Tomorrow I'll post about my experiences.

Dude! they'll totally know you're a criminal when they catch you wearing that!

I can't remember when I last used camo on an exploration. I rarely use full camo anyway, just a coat or pants or something, mostly for comfort/lots of pockets. From playing lots of paintball and CTf I know the benefits though, so if I do run across the right situation I'll definitely use it.

BTW, "Urban" camo works well for winter territory with rocks and vegetation, much better than the all white official US "winter camo". I guess the official stuff is designed for blending into glaciers where there's no other color, 'cause we do so much fighting on glaciers

Despite popular misconception, I don't wear camo all the time. people just can't seem to comprehend that simple fact...

I wear it when the situation calls for it to keep me as hidden as possible. At Riverview psyche, while a movie was filming there, we decided to make an attempt... bad idea. We did get all the way to the building, up by the studios trailors and Scarab pulled out the binocs to look down around the corner. That's when he saw the guy in the truck that put a radio up to his mouth...

So we know we're spotted, and start to beat a hasty retreat, I let everyone else move and took up the rear spot. As i'm on my way, the door on the trailor beside me opens, and security comes rushing out with a flashlight on. I spun up behind the bushes just in time and stayed motionless and silent till they moved back towards the building a bit, then I moved out as quickly as I could without making any noise. Once we were all a bit farther into the shadows, looking back, we could see them walking all around where they had spotted us...

From there, we were on our way off the property, and Scarab insisted on checking a weird manhole on a hill there... bad idea #2. So the rest of us are hidden under various trees branches while Scarab lifts the manhole. As he's doing that the RCMP drives onto the property. Pixie sees it and goes to warn us all, but forgets to push the button on her headset... Second try, she remembers, heh. Very luckily the car goes by and doesn't notice Scarab fairly in the open, but laid down on the grass (totally thinking he's busted). The RCMP head for the film crew trucks and we got the hell out of there...

I know it's wrong, but I tend to wear all black.... well kind of... let me elaborate.

My cargos used to be black, but they're pretty old now, so they resemble more of a white/gray from all the fading.

I usually wear a black long-sleeve top, tight fit... or my black hoody (if it's colder).

I have a green army color vest, that I wear once in a while, and I do own a pair of typical army camo cargos, but I rarely wear them, only in special situations, like Shatter and my infiltration of the Edgar site this past summer, it came in handy out there, since we were trudging through foliage for a few hours.

I plan on picking up a pair of the black/white/gray camo cargos and dropping them in a bucket of navy blue dye. Those will eventually be my new nighttime exploring pants, I figured adding blue to the mix will darken the pants enough to blend well with my surroundings.

Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.

Were to begin.

age 15 - BDU's (woods)
age 16 - Solid green BDU pants, black long sleeve shirt, flight suit (both black and green (semi active sites and rappeling off everything)
age 17 - Black shirt jeans (started more active sites)
age 17-18 guillie suits (recon and war games)
age 19ish started wearing all black. all blue. or a combination

Well for BDU's I tell this story. I use to absolutely hate golf. A friend of mine and myself would wait for someone to hit a ball, and we would run across and grab it. Although a fun practice it would piss off the players. One time we ended up smack dab against a fence. To the right of us we had bamboo, but no space to hide in it. To the right some very large open space. We quickly sat down back against the fence and started throwing pinestraw all over are legs. Then we snapped one branch down over where are face and chest were to break up our outlines. Being in a more shadowy but visible area we prepared for are inevitable capture. The people came up and looked all around us for their ball. Nearly stepping on us several times. From the edge of the path to the fence was no more then 3-4 feet. These people looked directly at us several times, but never saw/called us out. Still to this day I dont think they saw us, but I must admit I do not know for sure.

Then again thedevilmademedoit, and myself were out one night in the woods and got chased by nine car full of cops. Devil was in BDU's while I was in blue jeans and a black shirt with huge reflective letters. He got caught and I didnt due to 30 feet of distance. We also had a K9 unit come in after devil was caught. Thankfully we had spent all night running around in the woods so the dog couldnt track me. I think what happened is the handler got confused from the dog following are old tracks all over hell.

Needless to say your best camo is distance and cover, although Devil had great camo a superior hiding place he got caught due to the numbers of people moving around. Although more often then not I think proper camo can help greatly if there are any woods to escape to.

By the way they were going to charge us with shooting at a car with a rifle. After finding we had no guns and there were no holes in the car. A ladies window broke out and gun shots were reported and the dispatcher got confused.

Jester your CAMO pants are the same that were used by DELTA Force for years.

well i typically always wear CF combat pants and boots. i have to hide a few times and wearing olive green did help me blend in and prevented me from being caught. also i cant stress enough how useful the boots are they will take you anywhere. the point of camo is to break up your outline so you blend into your surroundings, regardless of whatever camo you have, if you dont use it properly it aint gonna help you

I have started wearing black pants, a olive drab T-Shirt (ones provided by the CAF to wear under our BDUs), and occasionaly a olive drab Tunic (also provided by the CAF). I have worn my BDUs out exploring, and yes you look odd walking around town in them, but since I am in the armed forces (and am always in my bdus while on base/training) I have gotten used to to stares and questions, plus if I get questioned about the legitimacy of my uniform, I can just pull out my military ID, but to save time and hassle, I usualy play it low key, and swap out the bdu for black pants and the tunic.

Oh, man, I love those! Any idea where to get them in bulk? I really want to get a bunch and print them. Most of what I've found online is $20 designer faux military shirts.

Check your local army surplus, we have army surpluses near most of our bases, and they have those shirts there (warn) for around 10-15.

Every so often I take a trip out to the rail yard to check out the trains. One of these days I'm going to hop on one. I wear woodland camo BDUs for this kind of trip just because they blend in well with the terrain and, provided the right type of bushes are available, can hide me even from the train engine's 1000 megawatt (or whatever it is) light. Plus I can dive clear into the mud in those things and not even care. My civvies are all dry-clean only, you see. I like to frequent the city in style .

Full camo, full moon, no clouds in sight. We had the nightvision, they had the flashlights... They walked 3 feet away from us as we layed up against an old stone/moss wall and didn't catch us. needless to say we had fun running in circles around them for the rest of the night

Any thoughts on carrying camo painted mosquito netting. It is very lightweight, can be folded down to a small size and is relatively inexpensive. Cut a hole in the middle of a large piece and you have a camo poncho/ cape. when the time comes, just ditch the netting and now you have the look of a civilian. It allows you to quickly change your camo to the environment - either camo netting for brush and woods or stuff the cape into the back of your shirt or toss it and blend into an urban environment wearing blue/black sweat pants and a t-shirt.
