Yep, you probably figured this one would come up

Who else here thinks the moon landings were faked?

Not I. christ I heard that and laughed if you have a super cool telescope you can see the landing site. However I have heard that its projected onto the surface.

Well, I don't want to get into the whole debate, I want to hear other's theories...but suffice it to say, there is way too much evidence to suggest it never happened. The only evidence to suggest that it DID happen are a handful of NASA people who are government employees who, when threatened with their life and reputation, will say anything they are told to.

I don't think that they were faked. With a powerful enough telescope, you could see the landing site, and probably the flag as well.

They also placed a mirror at the landing site for some kind of laser testing and several independent agencies have bounced light off of it. As interesting the idea that the moon landings were faked is, I just don't think it's the case. I really think someone would have talked by now if it had been anyway.

Well, when Junkyard and Asylunt get their orion ship going then we'll find out

I've always thought there were a few key things that proved the moon landings were real:

A: The russians were monitoring all radio transmissions (as were Hams, other countries, etc), so unless they had a tape deck and a transmitter orbiting the moon, another one in a lander, and a very good script...

B: The multiple experiments placed on the moon and used by independant researchers. Those include laser reflectors still used today.

C: The photos (Yeah I've heard all about the crosshair overlap, I have a satellite photo of my hometown that has a lake "overlapping" a crosshair, thus "proving" that satellites are a hoax!)

D: The rocks and soil brought back by Apollo missions. The russians did suceed in getting some nuclear robots onto the surface and sending back little bits of rock, but to bring back the amount of soil Apollo did would have needed a much bigger return vehicle.

I think the hoax theory is so popular because we underestimate what the US was capable of, back in the days of effective leaders and dedicated space budgets

Oh, there's no doubt that we have been to the moon. We have. The doubt is whether or not it's when NASA claims we first were.

That would explain all your moon rocks and laser mirrors and flags.

The US just wanted to be the first.

Personally, I like to think that it was faked. But that's only because I love a good story involving cover-ups, deception, and the government lying. But deep down, I know it wasn't. Although the case against is pretty neat.

On a side note, my older brother was 9 when the moon landing happened. He told me he remembers watching it at our grandparents and when it came on tv our grandfather said "Ahh, that's a bunch of bullshit. They're out in the desert somewhere."

Personally, I see reason for The US to fake the moon Landings. Russia was making great strides, getting closer and closer to the moon. Maybe America couldnt stand the fact that A communist regime might actually Land there before they did. I have mixed feelings about this topic, I think that we need more information before we can make a firm decision

Ive seen TV shows that presented a good deal of evidence on this so called conspiracy. The one that struck me as interesting is the flag I think Buz Aldrin was holding that appears to be moving in the wind, wind that doesnt exist on the lunar surface. The other is a movie set in the Arizona desert that had craters and hills that seemed to correspond to those in some lunar photos. Both are explainable I think. But, there could still be something to this maybe a partial conspiracy. A struggling NASA needing to put the best p.r. event forward that it could might they have been tempted to add some fake pictures to create a better presentation or get better quality shots to substitute for the ones that didnt come out with all the glare and contrast up there?

i think its kind of odd that we havent been back since...you would think the u.s. would want to expand. Also why have no other countries attempted a moon landing?

China and Japan both claim to have long-term plans for the moon. China already got some people into orbit after going to Russia's garage sale, and Japan is working on rockets that don't blow up. Personally I think either China or some private company will get back to the moon first, the US would rather waste money on military crap then on anything worthwhile.

In regards to the flag moving, the lack of air and lower gravity would keep it flapping from when they put it up. Since there's no air to stop it from waving around it's going to keep doing so until the weight of the material slows it down.

I remember hearing alot of talk about russian scientists claiming the layers of radiation around the earth made it to difficult to send a man mission to the moon. But nasa solved it with some tin foil sized raping around the ship. But i dont know alot about the bands of radiation around the earth.

But i do think we went to the moon despite what others may say. But i do believe it is vary posible some of the footage may be fake and maybe even the first mission was. Just to ensure we where there first. I think that is more believable then every mission being fake.

I don't know, I always go with the truth being the easiest explanation. Which would be harder - sending men to the moon or faking it and then keeping it covered up this long? Seems to be the fake explanation is harder and thus people must have gone there. And since there is no way for anyone here to ever prove it (such as going there ourselves and having a look) the discussion will go on forever...

I personally think that yes, man have been to the moon, and the USA was the first country there. And I will present my reasons why.

1) If it was faked during the cold war with Russia, then the Russians would have exposed the lie/fake/cover-up to the world, and then did the first landing themselves to get one up on the USA. As well as the laser tests from the mirrors they placed on the moon as mentioned earlier. During the cold war, a fake could not have been achieved, and not been proved a fake when the stakes had been so high at that time. As well, the saying is that time tells all, and time has not proved man going to the moon being faked. Plus on that scale, its not possible in the first place, and there are no good reasons to have that type of fake.

2) I have seen the landing site through my own telescope time at the University that I go to. I was able to see the flag, the lunar car, the landing machine thingy, the tire tracks, and everything. That cannot be faked, unless they sent people there to set the whole thing up. As well as the laser tests from the mirrors they placed on the moon as mentioned earlier.

3) China has now sent there own people into space, and the space race is now being re-ignited. I seen a show on the Discovery Channel that the USA is planning on sending people back to the moon by 2018, using an enhanced, updated and upgraded version of the technology they used during the Apollo Missions, to get ready to put a lunar base on the moon (2022 I think the show said) for preparation to send people to Mars. Japan's research as mentioned in an earlier post, and the European Space Agency has successfully proved that ion thrusters are safe, workable, and can be used on a larger scale, and now NASA are phasing them in as well.

4) If the world has spent the same amount of money that it does on war, and everything relating to war, man kind could have eliminated poverty, starvation and have people permanently living on both the moon and mars, and have people being sent out further for mining, and exploration.

That is my two cents worth...

Ah but the question is did the Russians get to the Moon?
http://lib.ru/PELEWIN/omon_engl.txt
A little comedy novella about their lunar rovers being populated with people inside and filmed in a studio, it takes the piss of the USSR (we only have a few planes and those we fly near the borders so the Americans can take pictures of them), author is Viktor Pelevin.
I think they almost certainly did, there seems to be a counter where whenever someone does something amazing, people want to dump on it. No nation can set up a base on the moon due to some old piece of legislation, so it will be private companies with large governmental ties.

Fake? Common. If you look back at the day they couldn't even do the star ship enterprise without the wires showing. Fake a lunar landing and make it believable? I think Not.
