Details on the B-17?
Many of the big WW2 aircraft were converted to other uses after the war, including air-sea rescue. That this B-17 seems to be missing it's lower ball turret makes me think that it had some kind of post-war conversion done to it. The yellow box looks like it's meant to be strapped to something else, ie. is not actually part of this aircraft. Maybe it's a radio beacon?

This particular 17, (Fuddy Duddy) never saw action and was a personal transport for Eisenhower and then Gen. MacArthur. It does have a portion of a ball turret riveted to the bottom and doesn't look bad unless you get right up on it. I rode in the bombadier section for the 1 hour flight. AWESOME!

If you look, there are straps on either side, looks pretty thick and large, maybe it is supposed to strap on to something.

Just for the record, completely off topic and me being a shithead, on a helicopter, the left-hand control is called a collective (for collective pitch), the right hand stick a cyclic. 
Was that F-4 a "G" variant? I was under the impression that the F-4F/G Phantoms were "Wild Weasel" detailed aircraft. Just curious.
The A-10 is probably one of my favorite aircraft ever built.

Update ! My Dad and I spoke on the phone, and he added one too many "auxiliary"'s. What he meant was "Aux power unit " which was like a portable generator. It would be used if a support truck was unavailable to turn over those big mother engines!
That would explain the web strapping, used to hold it down in flight.
He said he is sure he is right, but the other option, and I think he was just showing off his knowledge on the subject, was that it could be a "Janitrol" which was like a kerosene heater for the crew area (the gunners were out of luck).
Some of you may have seen the NOVA documentary about the B29 recovered from the ice near the Artic Circle. Their plan was to fly it out (it only ran out of fuel). After months of excavation, then refurbishment, they started the engines after 50 years. While making final preparations, they noticed smoke. The Janitrol had begun leaking fuel, which caught fire; once the magnesium airframe ignited, the recovery crew had no choice but to watch one of the last remaining B29's go up in flames.
Heartbreaking to say the least.
Fortunately there were two in the ice, but I'm not sure wether or not the other was recovered. The guy heading the effort used to fly U2 splyplanes (Google frozen B29, something like that).

I need to check, but I do believe you are correct. The lightnings are very rare now as well. God bless the B52; been in service for what, almost 50 years?

Kee Bird wasn't really in the ice, but on it. The other bombers were B17E's, buried under snow into a glacier. I saw work on the Lightning as it was removed, and glaciers are not kind to airplanes. They are under 300 feet of compressed snow and ice.
