Best Trek quote?
< on 11/8/2004 5:43 AM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
I liked this one from The Voyage Home

"Him? He's harmless. Back in the '60s he was part of the peace movement at Berkeley. I think he did a little too much LDS" - Kirk

but my favorite has to be

"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you oughtta go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." - Q

Though not a huge fan of TOS, one of my favorite lines comes from the episode The Naked Time... In this episode The Enterprise crew catch a virus that removes their inhibitions.

Sulu emerges on the bridge without a shirt and swinging a sword. Once he is subdued, Spock says:

"Take Dartagnian to sick bay"

Spock's delivery of this line gets me every time.

There are a lot that crack me up. Here's three that I really like:

Scotty: 'The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain!

Scotty(to the computer of the Excelsior): Oh up yer shaft!

Dr. McCoy (to Kirk on the Genesis Planet): It seems Admiral that I have all his marbles!

There are so many good ones, here's a few of my favorites...

"Superior ability breeds superior ambition."
- Spock, Space Seed

"It also proves another earth saying - 'Absolute power corrupts absolutely'.
- Spock, Pattern of Force

"Vulcans never bluff."
- Spock, The Doomsday Machine

Cold...Dark...Lonely...How sad to be forgotten.

naw, not so much a funny quote, but it catches me funny everytime I see it... Right at the point where Kirk is kicking the shit out of Kruge in Star Trek III, he punctuates every boot to the face with "I" kick "HAVE HAD" kick "ENOUGH" kick "OF YOU!!!" kick and Kruge the Klingon goes flying off into the sweet by and by.

I love that.

From Star Trek IV:

Gillian- "Let me guess: You're from outer space."
Kirk- "No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space."

The quote itself is so simple. I can't remember what episode it's in but Scotty is trying to get an alien drunk, they have consumed everything he has except one bottle. the alien asks what it is and Scotty looks at it and says:

"It's... It's... It's Green!"

Great delivery, not exactly a classic line

UNTIL!!!

Decades later when Scotty shows up in an episode of TNG

Data is in ten forward making Scotty a drink and the old engineer looks at Data and asks what it is... Data looks at the glass and then at Scotty and says.

"It is green."

I nearly died.

It's a tragedy.
It's exactly like a greek tragedy.
We should only be Greeks.

Is it just me, or is that one of the worst fight scenes ever?

From the Voyage Home...

Bones : You mean I have to die to discuss your insights on death?

and

Spock (to Kirk): Are you sure it isn't time for a colorful metaphor?

Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your sub-vocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents,
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

Oh Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array;
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.
