Hi, I am new to UER by many standards, I was wondering if carrying a pick set was taboo in the community or frowned upon? I live in Alberta Canada with a clean record I have used it twice but I'm just wondering if the risk to reward ratio is worth it?

It's not taboo, but be aware that in many jurisdictions getting caught exploring with lockpicks will get you charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools, which are both felonies. Hell in some jurisdictions you don't even need to be caught exploring- even if you're not committing any other crime, merely having them in your possession is a crime in some states unless you're a licensed locksmith. Understand that owning/using lockpicks, while not frowned upon in the community, does put you at significantly greater legal risk while exploring and plan accordingly.

I appreciate it, my father is a locksmith and I work for him on an off in university my vehicle is registered to him in case I ever got caught I would have a valid excuse. I will have to look into the laws and regulations in my area and make an educated decision. Would using things such as a hammer and a crowbar are they classified as burglary tools?

It depends on what you’re doing with them. If the tools are just in your car, no, but having them in your backpack while inside somewhere is. Or if you’re caught trespassing and police search your car, having those inside could also up your charge from trespassing to burglary and burglary tools, depending on how the cops feel that day. Best bet is to use the tools or picks, then ditch them before you go inside. Can always pick them up on the way out if the coast is clear. Carrying them on your persons, in a bag, or in your car while exploring is definitely a no go.

When I take questionable items with me I tend to keep them somewhere where I can grab it and toss it quickly should i sense trouble. jacket or pants pocket or just in my hand. If i do take something questionable with me I also do it with the knowledge I may never find it again after i toss it, so I never take anything too expensive or sentimental
In my experience things usually tossed weed/bowls, screw drivers, pocket multitools, lockpicks, small pry bars...etc

This is a jurisdiction question.
I found myself randomly seated near a guy in a bar last night who had all sorts of lockpicking tools as well as training tools. According to him, a bill was introduced to criminalise these things, but it didn't make it through the deadlocked National Assembly. So you're probably welcome in Korea.

I appreciate all the info guys! So if I was in a pickle I could hide them somewhere on sight or toss them in the woods good to know!
