DoTam (Urbex) Film Festival

DoTam is an abbreviation of "Dosi Tamheom," the most obvious Korean phrase for "urban exploration."

With the encouragement of one of my collaborators, as well as an introduction to a space that has a movie theater, I have been strongarmed into creating a film festival for urban exploration videos.

We're going to be focusing mainly on videos of UE in Korea, but I might leave some space for videos from abroad. If anyone here has any videos they'd like to share, they're more than welcome to submit them. I have requested all videos screened be bilingual in English and Korean, but for anyone from outside Korea, don't worry too much about that -- just make sure there's a script of all English subtitles and narration, and we'll help generate the Korean text for it.

DoTam Film Festival

The first-ever (and only?) mini-film festival dedicated to urban exploration in Korea, DoTam Film Festival, will be held at Eulji Space on April 6.

We are looking for videos filmed in Korea at abandoned places, or other types of urban exploration (“urbex” or “UE”) sites including tunnels and rooftops.

VIDEO SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1. The ideal length for a video submission is between 5 and 20 minutes. Shorter videos can be considered, but longer videos will have to be outstanding.
2. Multiple submissions are welcomed, but will most likely result in us simply choosing between your videos.
3. Camera/image stability is important. The videos will be shown on a projection screen, and we don't want to give the audience motion sickness.
4. In order to offer an entertaining program, we hope to select videos of various formats and styles. Documentary videos will be considered. Tutorials, how-to videos, interviews, and lecture videos will be considered. Music videos or videos of performances at urban exploration sites will be considered. Fictional stories filmed using urban exploration sites primarily or prominently will be considered. Pure urban exploration videos with just narration or no narration, just moving through urbex sites, will be considered.
5. Any narration or captioning must be offered in Korean and English. Quality of translation will probably not have an effect in our selection of finalists.
6. We aim to create an event welcoming a wide variety of possible submissions offering diverse perspectives and are not afraid of covering controversial topics that may make viewers feel uncomfortable. However, in order to keep everyone safe, we are likely to decline submissions that openly encourage criminal activity including destruction of property, theft, harassment, and invasion of privacy, or that blatantly support discrimination based on gender, sexuality, ethnicity, or place of origin. It is up to your discretion to protect the location details of sites depicted in your submission as well as the privacy of any participants involved in its making.

Your submission should contain the following:
 Your video in mp4, AVI, or WMV format.
 A text document containing any captioning, narration, dialogue, or any other spoken or written text.
 A written introduction explaining your work.
 A bio with any information about yourself you want to share. We can guarantee your anonymity if you request. You can identify yourself simply with an alias, an online handle, or your social media channel.
 At least two photos that we can use to promote your work. One should show yourself, but identity can be obscured in any creative way you choose. Other photos should promote the video work, such as, for example, good quality stills, or photos taken at sites appearing in your video on the same visit as filming.

You will retain the intellectual rights to your own work. All you are granting us is the right to screen your video during one weekend event. We will not publish online or stream your video work or excerpts from it for any purpose without your explicit permission.

Send your submission or any questions to dotamfilmfestival@gmail.com

Submission deadline is March 2.

We are committed to keeping this event low-cost, ensuring wide accessibility and low pressure. This means you will not be asked for money, but also there will probably be no prizes to win. However, you will be welcome to promote your online projects, or sell your photo prints, your own publications, or your other creative products you suggest to us.
