This ballroom was built in 1963 in a small village in Northern Ireland, at the height of the Irish Showband era. Many famous faces performed over the years, both Irish and from further afield, and it closed for good around eight years ago (or twenty-five, depending on what you read). The current owners, the school in the village, want to demolish it to build a new second school site and despite permission being granted there has been furious opposition from the local community who would much rather see it restored or at least incorporated into the new school rather than being flattened. 1

My god that's gorgeous. I thought the arch and columns in the first picture were great until I scrolled down and saw the dome, which totally stole the entire show. Not that the other photos weren't amazing too, but those dome shots were incredible!

Beautiful building. Definitely looks more than 8 years abandoned

#14 feels calming for whatever reason. I bet this place looked amazing back in its hay day.

The locals love it to bits and are fighting all attempts to demolish it, it was a focal point of the small community back in the day - sadly all the stalling is allowing the building to decay even further.

This building is incredible ! It looks so sad actually. I would of never guessed it had such an impressive dome either I can see why the furious backlash to not destroy this place. I hope they do incorporate this somehow, be a real shame to lose it completely. Really enjoyed this post, thanks !!

For 1963, this is really something. Guess the Irish know what's up. Amazing set!

That ceiling is such a cool contrast with the rest of the building's condition. Nice spot!
