Here's another one from my archives, featuring a historic brewery constructed in 1892 that I visited during the Clocktoberfest 2021 meetup. Originally built as part of a merger between the dozens of heirs to the city's original brewers, it was a state of the art facility with the capacity to produce well over a quarter million barrels of beer per year. The brewery shut down due to Prohibition and changed hands several times in the following decades. It was at various points used as a hog processing plant, a microbrewery, a corn syrup refinery, an office, and a warehouse. In 1977 it was declared a historic structure, kicking off over half a century of debate about redeveloping the brewery. It was originally set to be demolished by the owner in 2005, but the city declared a Conservation Zone around it to prevent the demolition. In 2016 the script flipped and city engineers called for its demolition due to unsalvageable structural damage, but the owner pushed back with claims that they had a buyer interested in redeveloping the old brewery. As of 2023 a large side building is under demolition, but the future of the main structure itself is still uncertain.

That Iron stair case is really beautiful. As a society we really should try and make utilitarian structures beautiful again LOL.

Right? I'm sick of this late stage capitalist, grey colorscheme blocky pre-fab construction that defines the modern architectural style. We need to bring back gargoyles and large domes. Everything looks cooler with gargoyles and domes.
